How to make southern corn pone.
RECIPE
¼ TSP SALT
1-1/2 CUP WHITE CORN MEAL
1 CUP (MILK)
1 EGG
Mix salt, milk, and egg together in a bowl. Mix well.
Pour mixture into the cornmeal and mix thoroughly.
Warm cast iron skillet to just above medium heat and throw in about 1 teaspoon of butter.
Let butter melt and start to sizzle – pour ¼ or so of mixture into skillet – much like you would do a pancake – allow pone to brown well
Add another teaspoon of butter and flip pone over and allow it to brown
After both sides are brown – it takes about 1 minute a side to finish cooking
Goes well with beans and ham – neck bone soup – or watch video for my favorite suggestion
Mom's Cornpone | Deep Run Roots | EASY
Cornpone is a very different type of cornbread than most people are used to these days. It's dense, not fluffy, and definitely not sweet. If you've never tried it, it's worth a shot!
I was able to find this recipe in the Google boss preview for Deep Run Roots here:
