Traditional South African Bobotie at home!
Bobotie is a traditional South African dish, although its origins could be as far back as Ancient Rome! It is a simple comfort dish, using a blend of spices and curry with ground beef, bread, carrots and a milk and egg mixture baked on top. This dish is not spicy, but has a depth and complexity of flavours, served on a yellow rice recipe, and I always have a side of a fruit chutney when I eat this dish. Like all the dishes I prepare, this dish allows you to add or remove things to taste, so share your experience with me when you try it!

How To Make Bobotie On The Coals | Salwaa Smith | Cape Malay Cooking & Other Delights
Please subscribe and share…
We celebrated our South African heritage in September with a traditional braai (well multiple braais!)
We love to braai (BBQ) so much so we will cook anything over the coals. My husband came up with the idea to cook a bobotie over the coals and I have to admit it was brilliant! The smokiness brought out the flavour of the bobotie and it was so yummy.
Please do give my recipe a try and let me know what you think of it. You can also make it in your oven.
Here’s the list of ingredients I used, follow the video for the method.
white bread (preferably a couple of days old)
cooking oil
chopped onion
ground or whole cloves
crushed garlic
salt
@capemalaycooking curry powder
