How To make Whole Wheat Hamburger Buns
1 1/4 cups warm water (about 100F)
1/3 cup mild oil
1/4 cup sugar (or honey)
2 packages yeast (2 scant Tbsp)
4 teaspoons salt
1 egg yolk
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup bread flour (or all-purpose flour)
Melted butter
Combine water, oil, sugar and yeast. Mix thoroughly and then allow to rest for 15 minutes. Mix in the salt, egg yolk, whole wheat flour, and white flour and combine until thoroughly mixed (at least 10 minutes). On a floured board, roll the dough out until it is about 3/4-inch thick. cut circles of dough about 4-inch in diameter with a cutter (or use a large empty can that you have washed out).
Place the buns on a cookie sheet, brush the tops with melted butter, and allow to raise for 30 minutes.
Bake at 425F for 10 minutes or until golden brown.
YIELD: 10 buns

Whole Wheat Flour - 3 + 1/4 cups(500 g)
water - 2 + 1/2 cup (600 ml)
Instant dry yeast- 2 tsp
Salt - 1 tsp

Come along with me as I use my Komo Mio grain mill, and Bosch mixer to whip up a batch of whole wheat hamburger buns. Find the written recipe and instructions on my blog,

Ingredients
-Whole wheat aata 2 cups
-Salt 1 tsp
-Yeast 1.5 tsp
- Lukewarm Milk 1 cup
-Oil 2 tbsp
-Honey 2 tbsp
-Sesame seeds 1 tbsp
-Extra flour if needed
Direction
-Sieve 2 cups ww flour. Add salt, instant yeast and honey. Mix well.
- Add 1cup of warm milk and knead the dough into hard ball.
- Spread oil on work place and knead the dough for 10 minutes by stretch and pull method until soft and smooth dough ball is formed.
-Let the dough rest for 1 hour at warm place until double in size.
- Grease hands and divide the dough in 6 equal parts and make dough balls.
- Let the balls rest for another half an hour meanwhile preheat the oven at 180 C.
- Brush some milk and sprinkle sesame seeds on dough buns and bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven, brush melted butter on top of buns.
- Cut the bun from centre and enjoy with filling of your choice.

I am back with another baking recipe and we had a lot of issues while shooting this video. When we attempted it for the first time out of nowhere camera would start to flicker and it doesn’t turn on again. Camera issue was a shocker!
So, we had to stop filming the video immediately. We were waiting for the camera delivery from the service centre which delayed in posting this blog.
Anyways lets come back to today’s post, Wheat buns really turned out really soft and light. I am sure you would love them, even I was surprised at the end result when I tried for the first time.
I have already baked them for 4 to 5 times, as they are so good.
ingredients
Wheat flour/atta 2 cups
Buttermilk/Curd 1 cup
Active Dry Yeast ½ Tbsp
Sugar ¼ Cup
Salt ½ Tsp
Oil/Butter ¼ cup
Milk for brushing on top
Instructions
In a large bowl add Wheat flour, Active Dry Yeast, Sugar, and Salt, give a good mix.
Now add the Buttermilk, give a good mix.
At the end add oil and mix it again.
Check the texture of the dough, the dough should be of loose consistency, if it feels dry, add 2 tbsp of curd to the dough to get loose consistency.
Now knead the dough for 3 to 4mins, not more.
Cover the kneaded dough with a tea towel and allow it to double in size (it takes 90 mins to 2.5 hrs based on weather).
Once the dough has doubled, divide into 6 equal portions.
Give a bun shape and place them on a baking tray and allow it to rise for another 20 mins.
Preheat oven to 200 c, brush milk on buns and sprinkle sesame seeds.
Bake the buns for 12 to 15 mins.
Allow them to cool it down before you slice.
Enjoy fresh homemade healthy burger buns.
