How To make Toad In The Hole (Yorkshire Pudding w/Sausage)
1 c Flour
1 c Milk
2 Eggs
1 ts Salt
1/4 ts Black pepper
1 lb Sausages
1/3 c Water
In a food processor fitted with the steel blade or in a blender, blend flour, milk, eggs, salt, and pepper for 5 seconds. Turn off the motor and with a rubber spatula, scrape down the sides of the container. Blend the batter for 20 seconds more, transfer it to a bowl and let it stand, covered with plastic wrap, for one hour. In a skillet, combine sausages, pierced lightly with a needle, and water. Bring the water to a boil over moderately high heat and boil the sausages, turning them, until the water is evaporated. Saute the sausages, adding oil if necessary to keep them from sticking, for 7 minutes or until they are golden brown. Transfer the sausages with a slotted spoon to a plate, pour 3 T. of fat from the skillet into an 8" square baking pan and heat the pan in a preheated very hot oven
(450^) for two minutes. Stir in the batter, pour one fourth of it into the pan and bake it in the very hot oven for two minutes, or until it is set. Arrange the sausages on the batter, pour the remaing batter over them, and bake the mixture for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to moderate (375^) and bake the mixture for 10-15 minutes more, or until it is puffed and golden brown. Serve the dish immediately with Dijon-style mustard, if desired.

1/3 cup beef fat or high smoke point oil
Metric Recipe:

184 grams of all-purpose flour
1.4 grams of kosher salt
236 ml whole milk
59 ml water
80 ml beef fat or high smoke point oil
6-7 Cumberland or English banger sausages(you can sub with a mild pork sausage)
1/4 cup beef fat or high smoke point oil
Onion gravy
1 sweet or yellow onion julienne
5 tbsp unsalted butter
4 tbsp all-purpose flour
4 cups chicken stock
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp marmite
5 sprigs of fresh thyme

Toad in the hole is a British classic, and one of my favourite comfort foods. I grew up on this kind of food, and to me, nothing beats good, hearty stout British food.
Toad in the hole is very simple to make. It's basically pork sausages cooked in Yorkshire pudding batter, and served up with lashings of onion gravy (which i'm going to show you how to do as well). Like I said in the video though, even though it's a frugal and inexpensive meal, the one thing you can't scrimp on, is the sausages. You want good, meaty sausages for this with at least 90% pork, to give you a great flavour and texture. Please don't go and slap in a load of cheap nasty bangers, as you'll be sorely disappointed.
Equally, don't go and dump a load of instant gravy over the toad in the hole either. You've put all that love into the toad in the hole, so make sure the gravy is befitting too. I'll show you how easy it is to make a simple, tasty and fresh tasting onion gravy that's rich with flavour.
To make my toad in the hole you will need:
►8-10 good quality pork sausages
►About 5 eggs
►Milk
►Plain flour
►3 small onions
►About 500ml of beef stock
►1 bay leaf
►2 tsp of worcester sauce
►Oil for cooking (vegetable, rapeseed, sunflower)
►2 tsp of horseradish (optional)
►Salt & pepper
►1/2 a tsp of baking powder
►Small knob of butter
