-MARY WILSON BWVB02B 1 c Sugar 2 c Butter; at room temperature 1 ts Vanilla extract 1/2 tb Lemon rind; grated 2 Eggs 6 c - 7 cups cake flour Cream together sugar and butter in an electric mixer. When fluffy, add vanilla and lemon rind. Blend well. Add eggs, one at a time; mix well. Remove from mixer. Add cake flour; blend with a heavy mixing spoon. Chill dough in refrigerator 1 hour or overnight. Roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness and cut out with cookie cutters. Bake in preheated 375-degree oven until brown, about 7-8 minutes. Note: If colored granulated sugar is used for decoration, prepare an egg wash (1 well-beaten egg with 1 tbsp. milk) and brush over the cut-out dough. Sprinkle with sugar and bake. Makes 10 dozen cookies. -----

The White House Historical Association's fourth lecture in our series White House History with Ann Compton featured a panel of speakers, including former White House Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier, author of Creating the Sweet World of White House Desserts: A Pastry Chef’s Secrets, and East Wing expert Jennifer Pickens, author of Entertaining at the White House: Decades of Presidential Traditions. The lecture featured both guests discussing their recent publications on traditions and celebrations with first families at the White House.
Mamies Million Dollar Fudge
Mamie Eisenhower's Million-Dollar Fudge Recipe. This is an easy recipe to put together, but if you don't have a mixer like I am using you will have to beat it by hand and it then becomes labor intensive. Enjoy.
Ingredients: 2 cups coarsely chopped pecans 1 pint (1 jar) marshmallow cream 12 ounces semisweet chocolate 12 ounces German's sweet chocolate (broken into pieces) Place the pecans, marshmallow fluff and chocolate in a large bowl.
Spray a 9 x 11 pan with a nonstick cooking spray
4 1/2 cups sugar Pinch salt 2 tablespoons butter 1 (12-ounce) can evaporated milk In a heavy saucepan over medium heat, bring the sugar, salt, butter and evaporated milk to a boil. Boil for 6 minutes.
Pour the boiled syrup over the chocolate mixture. Beat quickly by hand until chocolate is all melted. and pour fudge into pan. Let harden at room temperature. Cut into 1- inch squares. #ruesmountainhome #appalachianlife #fudge
