Southern Pimento Cheese Ball | Perfect Holiday Appetizer
Let me tell you about pimento cheese.
My grandmother on my mother's side made THE BEST pimento cheese ever! I can remember watching her mix it up by hand when I was really young and by a good old Kenmore stand mixer as a teenager.
I never tried making it on my own until much later, because, well why try to do something myself that she did perfect?
After she passed away, I finally tried my hand at making some pimento cheese. It was good...it was missing some of the love and care she added to it, but it was still good. It ranks right up there as a comfort food with biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, and tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich.
Today I mix it up in a food processor and it takes just seconds. And to make it into a cheese ball just seemed like the next logical step. I promise everyone will be raving about this on your appetizer table. Don't be surprised if it's the first thing to go.
It's so easy to put together and just as good if you just serve it in a bowl instead of waiting for it to firm up to make a ball.
Take a few minutes and give it a try. If you love it as much as I do, leave me a comment and let me know!
See you next week.
Southern Pimento Cheese Ball
INGREDIENTS
• 2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)
• 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
• 1/4 cup mayonnaise
• 4 oz jar pimento peppers (drained and chopped)
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
• Splash of Worcestershire sauce
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
• 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
• 1/2 cup pecans (chopped)
• 1 tablespoon flat parsley (chopped)
PREPARATION STEPS
1. Combine cheddar cheese, cream cheese, mayo, pimento peppers, garlic powder, onion powder, Worscestershire, salt and pepper in a food processor and pulse it several times until a pale pink and fully combined but still chunky.
2. Turn out the cheese mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap. Pull up the edges of the plastic wrap up and twist so that all the cheese begins to form a ball. Use the twisting of the wrap and your hands to form cheese into a ball.
3. Refrigerate until just before serving.
4. Now place chopped pecans and parsley into a shallow pie plate or bowl. Roll cheese ball in nuts, gently pressing into it to stick. Coating the cheese ball just prior to serving will keep the nuts from becoming soft.
5. Serve with veggies, crackers, crostini, pretzels or even fruit.

1 cup of shredded marble cheese

1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp black pepper
1 cup of bacon bits
1/2 cup chopped green onions
Fresh parsley
Instructions for making a cheese ball:
- You’ll want to start with a package of cream cheese that’s room temperature so it will be easier to mix
- Loosely stir it with a fork just to break it up a bit then add shredded marble cheese, shredded old cheddar, onion powder, garlic powder, black pepper, bacon bits and chopped green onion
- Stir everything together by kind of mashing the other ingredients into the softened cream cheese with a fork
- This might take a little while but hey, it’s the only real effort you have to put into this recipe
- Now lay out a large piece of plastic wrap on your working surface
- Sprinkle more shredded cheese in the centre as well as some chopped, fresh parsley this will be the kind of crust on the outside of your cheeseball
- Once you have a fairly even layer, pour the cream cheese mixture as close to the centre as you can
- Use the plastic wrap to shape the cheese by pushing it together then rotating and pushing again until you have a ball shape
- Next tightly wrap your cheese ball in the plastic wrap, twisting the ends to ensure it holds it’s shape
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or until you’re ready to serve with your favourite crackers, veggies or bread
