Easy bird nest cookie tutorial
3 c. mini marshmallows 3 TBSP unsalted butter 1/2 tsp vanilla 4 c. dry chow mein noodles small candies, jelly beans, m & m's, etc.
Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
Over low heat, melt the marshmallows and butter in a large saucepan.
Once melted, stir in the vanilla, then the chow mein noodles.
Coat your hands liberally with shortening, (butter doesn't work as well) and have some nearby for re-coating. Grab a clump of noodles smaller than a tennis ball and larger than a golf ball. Form into a ball while pressed your thumbs into the middle, forming a nest. Before nests are completely cool, add the eggs and form nest around eggs. Allow to cool and enjoy! These make adorable cupcake toppers and would be cute with a peep on top. :)
Bird’s nest aka bird’s saliva
Bird’s nest, aka bird’s saliva, is a luxury traditional Chinese food. The nests are rich in nutrients such as protein, calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium, and are traditionally believed to provide health benefits. But these functions are actually controversial.
Three times a year, swiftlets build nests out of their sticky saliva on cave walls and cliff sides. After they abandoned their old nests, farmers will harvest them to sell.
To cook bird’s nest: - Soak bird’s nest in cold water for 6 hours until softened. - Rinse and drain. - Get rid of tiny bird feathers with tweezers. - Add cold water in the inner pot until cover the nest. - Use a double boiler to brew the nest soup for 30 minutes. - Add rock candies and goji berries while it’s still hot.
