I took traditional hush puppies and kicked it up a notch. I added bacon, corn and, jalapenos to take these hush puppies to another level.
Hush Puppies Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup corn meal
1 1/2 cup flour
2 tbsp. salt
1/4 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
6 slices bacon
2 ears of corn or canned (1 1/2 cups
jalapeno peppers to taste (optional)
1/2 onion
2 Tbsp. Capers (optional)
To prepare mix dry ingredients, eggs and buttermilk. Stir until mixed together well. Then place any vegetables and any meat you choose to use in skillet and cook until softened. Once softened add to your batter and stir well.
With either a spoon or ice cream scoop add a small amount to oil that 350 degrees. Enjoy. These hush puppies are very flavorful.

Fun Facts:
Native Americans were using ground corn for cooking long before European explorers arrived in the Americas. Southern Native American culture (Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek) was one of the main contributors to Southern cuisine. From their culture came one of the main staples of the Southern diet: corn (maize), either ground into meal or limed with an alkaline salt to make hominy, also called masa, in a Native American technology known as nixtamalization. Corn was used to make all kinds of dishes from the familiar cornbread and grits to liquors such as whiskey and moonshine, which were important trade items. Cornbread was popular during the American Civil War because it was very cheap and could be made in many different sizes and forms. It could be fashioned into high-rising, fluffy loaves or simply fried for a quick meal.
Typical hushpuppy ingredients include cornmeal, wheat flour, eggs, salt, baking soda, milk or buttermilk, and water, and may include onion, spring onion (scallion), garlic, whole kernel corn, and peppers. Sometimes pancake batter is used. The batter is mixed well, adjusting ingredients until thick, and dropped a spoonful at a time into hot oil. The small breads are fried until crispy golden brown, and cooled. Hushpuppies are served with seafood or barbecued foods. They are commonly made at home or served in restaurants advertising home-style food.

Shrimp & Grits Hush Puppies
Fast food is a type of mass-produced food designed for commercial resale and with a strong priority placed on speed of service versus other relevant factors involved in culinary science. Fast food was originally created as a commercial strategy to accommodate the larger numbers of busy commuters, travelers and wage workers who often did not have the time to sit down at a public house or diner and wait for their meal. By making speed of service the priority, this ensured that customers with strictly limited time (a commuter stopping to procure dinner to bring home to their family, for example, or an hourly laborer on a short lunch break) were not inconvenienced by waiting for their food to be cooked on-the-spot (as is expected from a traditional sit down restaurant). For those with no time to spare, fast food became a multibillion-dollar industry.
Describing food is not as easy as it would seem. How many ways can you say something was really tasty? You can compare a dish to a picture, a sports game, a musical performance or give it personality. Describe its sunny or somber mood, shyness, assertiveness, or contradiction of flavors. Knowing the words for describing tastes and flavors will help you to find the right adjective in other areas.
