How To make Gingerbread Dough For Structures
2/3 c Shortening
1/2 c Sugar
1/2 c Blackstrap molasses
1 Egg
3 c Flour
1 ts Baking soda
1 ts Baking powder
1 ts Cinnamon
1 ts Ginger
1 ts Cloves
1/2 ts Nutmeg
Cream shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg; beat thoroughly. Sift together remaining ingredients and add to liquid mixture. Mix well. If dough does not come together, add water as necessary. (Dough tends to be stiff.) Roll to 1/2" thick and cut pattern for desired structure. Bake at 350 for 15-18 minutes. Be very careful when removing from baking sheets to cooling rack. Let cool thoroughly, then assemble using Royal icing (2 egg whites, 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar, 1/2 to 1 tsp. vanilla, 1 lb. confectioners sugar. Beat until stiff.) A couple of things: Roll out the dough right on the cookie sheets, cut your pieces, and peel away the extra dough. A lot easier than trying to transfer the pieces from rolling board to sheets. Leave some space between pieces; this dough tends to spread a bit. It also has a tendency to crack a little when you take it off the baking sheet if you use a small spatula to move it. I went out and invested in one with a 5"x3" blade. The cookie isn't too sweet, but nice and spicy. I spent the whole day with my mom, helping her make cookies for Christmas gifts. Somewhere around 600 cookies later, I'm finally home.... Anyway, she gave me permission to divulge her gingerbread recipe, so here it is. * The Polka Dot Palace BBS 1-201-822-3627. Posted by EPONA

Good morning my wild and beautiful friends!
Today we’re making gingerbread houses.
I’ve got a fail proof gingerbread recipe for you.
Plus the easiest way to assemble... And... the easiest vegan royal icing recipe so you can decorate until your heart is content!!
Gingerbread
1 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 stick plant based butter
3/4 cup black strap molasses
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
.5 teaspoon salt
.5 teaspoon allspice
.5 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/4 cup plant milk of your choice
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 cups of flour
melt sugar, molasses, butter and spices in a small sauce pan. Combine with the rest of ingredients mix until a dough forms. Chill in plastic wrap for 1/2 hour.
Once chilled, roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thick to 1/2 inch thick. use templates to cut out each section of your house. I also cut out gingerbread men.
bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit for 15-20 minutes depending on your oven and thickness of your dough.
to glue your house together melt about a cup of sugar in a fry pan until there are no crystals left. dip each side of your house in the melted sugar and attach to one another. Be very careful!!!!! Melted sugar is so very hot and can burn you badly.
Cool your houses and decorate with fondant, candy, and sprinkles!
Royal Icing
1/2 of the juice from one can of chickpeas
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
beat with whisk attachment until thick, silky, and shiny.

Gingerbread House Family Christmas Tradition | Recipe & Template
Since I was a little girl, we have made gingerbread houses every year for Christmas, with few exceptions. It is a family tradition, one we love and look forward to every year. We get the whole family involved. Some years, we make huge structures that require support and tools to put together, and other years we make smaller houses. Some years we make individual houses, and some years we make one large project. This year we will show you how to make a medium size, pretty simple, gingerbread house for a fun family activity. Large enough that you can be creative in your decorating, but not so large that it requires special tools. Mom and Kaija are joining me for this adventure as they do every year; dad is always in the background sampling and giving support. Here are our family's gingerbread houses for Christmas 2020.
Happy Baking, and I want to wish you a very Happy Holiday Season.
