Move over Manwich- Homemade Sloppy Joes- freezer meal
These sloppy joes are so delicious! You can double, triple, quadruple the recipe and have some for freezer meals. Place sloppy joes in a freezer bag. Squeeze out as much air as possible. Flash freeze on a cookie sheet flat. Once frozen remove cookie sheet and stack in freezer. I triple the sauce recipe because I like it to be saucy. If you have picky eaters, processing the onions and peppers in a food processor will make them hardly noticeable. Happy cooking friends!

Better Than Manwich Homemade Sloppy Joes
Sloppy Joes Homemade Manwich
2 lbs ground beef (I used ground round)
1 1/2 onions minced finely (I used my caramelized onions)
1-2 bell pepper (I used a mix of green, red and yellow)
1 6oz can of tomato paste
6-7 ounces of water (I whisked my water together with the paste)
4 ounces light Karo corn syrup (I use 1/2 cup brown sugar just as much as I use the Karo syrup)
4 ounces white vinegar (you need the vinegar, you may reduce down to 2 oz but won't be quite as close to Manwich)
2-3 Tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce
1 1/2 cups Ketchup
2 Tablespoons of yellow mustard (I used Dijon mustard)
Note* The following can be adjusted to YOUR taste, this is just an average guide (I do use more than this base amount guide):
Fresh minced garlic
1 teaspoon granulated garlic powder
1 teaspoon granulated onion powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Optional:
a cornstarch slurry for thickening NOTE Not really needed (2 parts cold water to 1 part cornstarch)
Note for a much bolder flavor you may add the following to your taste. Remember, if you are new to cooking not used to the following ingredients add them a LITTLE at a time, you cannot take the hot back out! My suggestion is to let folks add it to THEIR own plate!
Red pepper flakes
Cayenne pepper
Tabasco Sauce
Louisiana Hot sauce
Enjoy! This is some GOOD eatin'!
Tasty Slow Cooker Sloppy Joes
In this video, I make some delicious slow cooker sloppy joes. It’s the perfect dish to make when you’re low on ingredients and looking for something cheap to make.

The sauce in this dish matches the ground beef perfectly leaving you with a meal that the entire family can enjoy. This beef mix is just fine on its own but usually goes great in a fresh bread roll.
As I mentioned above, this dish is great when you’re on a tight budget and low on ingredients. You can even skip on the bell pepper if you're unable to get one.
If you like your sloppy joes with extra sauce then make sure you double the sauce ingredients. Also, if you prefer your sauce to be less sweet then make sure you leave the brown sugar out completely or reduce it down to just a teaspoon or two.
One thing you might want is a list of ingredients so you can go check the cupboards and fridge. If this is the case then you can find one right below.
500g/1 lb ground beef
1 onion, diced
1 tsp. garlic, crushed
1 red bell pepper, diced
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp. Dijon mustard
1 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 cup ketchup
In the video, I brown the ground beef but this isn’t hugely important and can be skipped if you’re running low on time. Browning the beef will reduce the amount of fluid and fat in the final dish so it’s pretty important if you want the best result.
You’re able to bulk out this recipe by simply doubling or tripling the ingredients. You can also feed more people by having some fried chips or some bread rolls to go with it. If you’re having it in a bread roll then some coleslaw goes perfectly with it.
The leftover meat can be used for lunches the next day and is great both warm and cold. Just store the leftovers in either the fridge or freezer until needed. It will last a few days in the fridge but months in the freezer.
I hope that you enjoy this slow cooker sloppy joes recipe and that it cooks out to be as great as it did for me. If you have some thoughts on the recipe that you will like to share then feel free to leave a comment below or over at slowcookingperfected.com
