Meet the free range egg farmer - Fresh stories from the farm
Australian farmer Peter Matuszny of Manning Valley Free Range Eggs in NSW persuaded his parents to buy him 12 hens from the Royal Easter Show when he was 14 years old. He’s now responsible for more than 400,000 free range hens and produces and packs two million free range eggs a week across seven properties.
His passion for his work has been the driving force to persevering through severe droughts, most notably in the summer of 2019 when Manning Valley was just weeks away from running out of water.
Peter stays optimistic and shares how it’s the little things like customer feedback and support that keeps him motivated. “Getting a message from a happy customer that they're enjoying the eggs keeps you going in hard times,” he says.
Did you know? Brown, white, blue and green eggshells are simply indicative of the breed of hen.
