Technically, gong bao is a style, so if anyone tells you that you can't cook gong bao fish, ask them to think again. Named after its counterpart, Gong Bao Fish shares a connection with the renowned Gong Bao Chicken (also known as Kung Pao Chicken) in Chinese cuisine. Kung Pao sauce is a classic and flavourful Chinese sauce known for its combination of sweet, salty, sour, and spicy elements. It is most famously associated with Kung Pao Chicken, a popular Chinese dish. The sauce typically includes ingredients such as soy sauce, vinegar, sugar, and chilli peppers, providing a balance of savoury, tangy, and spicy flavours. Welcome back to my channel. In this video I'm sharing with you my Cantonese style steamed fish.
The word for fish in Chinese is “yú”, which also means surplus or abundance. Superstitious or not, we always include fish in the New Year meal. It’s an expression of Thanksgiving and Hope for the new year.
This recipe is one of the tastiest, yet it's super easy to make. It’s my favorite way to cook fish. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Buddha's Delight:
Ingredients
One whole fish - about 1 1/2 lb (680 g)
Fresh ginger - 3 oz (85 g)
2 stalks spring onions
3 stems coriander
one red chili pepper
2 tablespoons Shaoxing wine
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for coating the fish before steaming)
Sauce:
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons rock sugar (or 1 teaspoon regular sugar)
2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for infusing the ginger)
Cooking time: 7 minutes.
