How To make Egg Custard Pie
1 Unbaked 9-inch pastry shell
4 Eggs; slightly beaten
2/3 c Sugar
1 ts Vanilla extract
1/4 ts Salt
1/4 ts Ground nutmeg
2 1/4 c Milk
Additional ground nutmeg Recipe by: Southern Living
Bake pastry shell at 400 degrees for 5 minutes. Let cool. Combine eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg; beat until blended. Gradually stir in milk; mix well. Pour filling into pastry shell; sprinkle with additional nutmeg. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes; reduce heat to 325 degrees, and bake an additional 35 minutes or until a knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool to room temperature before serving. With only a few ingredients you can make this pie is very easy and quick.
The secret in this pie's great design, and flavor, is the eggs and extracts.
Egg binding foods have been around for over 2000 years now. And since Roman times.
In fact, flavoring the eggs, and then binding them was also popular then.
In this traditional American version of the Custard pie. We present the traditional made one.
Very simple.
Just mix. pour and bake.
Chill just before serving.
Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 1/2 Cups Milk
4 Eggs
1/2 Cup Sugar
1/4 Tsp Salt
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
1/2 Tsp Almond Extract
1 Frozen Pie Crust (Thawed)
Nutmeg to Sprinkle
Preheat Oven 400°
Bake 45-55 Minutes
Or till wooden stick draws clean

1 1/2 cans evaporated milk
1 can sweetened condensed milk
6 eggs
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp salt
baked in a water bath at 350°F for 1 hour or more depending on your oven

Delicious Egg Custard pie - everything made from scratch using our Mom's recipe for the pie shell and the filling. This pie has so many memories tied to it that come flooding back every time I make them. We also have a video we did earlier that features just the making of the pie crusts. And also a video that gives a peanut butter pie and coconut cream pie recipes.

PIE CRUST RECIPE
6 cup All Purpose Flour 2 cup Crisco
2 Eggs, slightly beaten 2 Tablespoon Vinegar
3/4 cup Water 2 teaspoon Salt
Mix flour, salt and crisco thoroughly.
Add eggs, vinegar and water.
Mix till combined, do not over mix.
Bake pie crust at 400 for 10 minutes
EGG CUSTARD PIE RECIPE
9 cups milk total
3/4 heaping cup flour
1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
6 eggs - separated
3 tsp vanilla
3 tsp nutmeg
Heat 7 cups milk to the verge of boiling (do not boil)
Beat egg whites - set aside
Mix together - 2 cups milk, flour, sugar, vanilla, nutmeg & egg yolks
Stir this mixture into the hot milk that has been removed from the heat.
Add the beaten egg whites.
Pour into unbaked pie crusts (Makes 4 pie)
Bake 350 for 40 minutes
