Binging with Babish: King of the Hill Special
Peggy Hill is many things: she's a mother. A boggle champ. A substitute teacher (substitute teacher of the year twice, in fact). A sculptor. A foot fetish model. A kidnapper. A survivor of a fall from 13,000 feet without a parachute. The mother of the 15th Dalai Lama. She is by her own admission, however, not a very good cook. Will her specialty dishes make it into the clean plate club?

That's right, campers. Today “In the Kitsch'n” Apple Brown Betty is making her namesake... a classic Apple Brown Betty! Not to be confused with an apple crisp, although you might be hard pressed to tell the difference. But that's a topic for another day and another YouTube channel.
Here are the INGREDIENTS you'll need:
5 medium apples (any tart apple)
1/4 cup orange juice
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon
pinch of salt
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
Apple Brown Betty is best served warm with a scoop of ice cream!

Apple Brown Betty Recipe Demonstration
Hi everyone! Apple Brown Betty is a 19th-century waste-not, want-not dessert. It's absolutely delicious all on its own or topped with vanilla ice cream. Full recipe is written out below. I hope you enjoyed this episode!
Since many of you are asking about it, here's the link to the blue baking dish that I used in the video:
APPLE BROWN BETTY
Ingredients for about 8 servings
8-9 ounces white, whole wheat, or gluten-free bread, torn into large pieces
1/2 cup (113g) butter (salted or unsalted), melted
6 medium-size apples, such as 'Gala' (about 2 1/2 pounds), peeled, cored, and cut into 1/8-inch slices
A generous tablespoon of pure maple syrup
1/3 cup (67g) light or dark brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Butter or vegetable spray for greasing the baking dish
Center the oven rack and preheat the oven to 375°F.
In a food processor, pulse the bread until it forms coarse crumbs. Spread the crumbs out on a baking sheet, and bake them until they turn lightly golden -- 8-10 minutes. Transfer the crumbs to a bowl, and toss them with the melted butter.
In a separate bowl, toss the apple slices with the maple syrup, brown sugar, and spices. Add half of the bread crumbs, and toss again to combine.
Pour the apple mixture into a greased 2-(or up to 4-) quart baking dish. Sprinkle the top with the remaining bread crumbs. Cover the dish tightly, and bake until bubbly -- about 40 minutes. Remove the cover and continue baking until the topping is crisp -- 5-10 minutes, depending on your oven.
