Pfeffernüssen
Recipe:
Pfeffernüssen, the name translates to pepper nuts in German, Danish and Dutch, describing their spicy taste as well as the fact that many recipes actually call for almonds or walnuts and a small amount of black pepper to be used.
Pfeffernüsse - German Spice Christmas Cookies | Food Wishes
The name translates to “pepper nut,” which sounds odd when you consider the original recipe didn’t call for pepper or nuts, but that aside, these are ridiculously good, surprisingly easy, and I think they are the best Christmas cookie ever. Enjoy!

Peppernut Cookies
PRINT the recipe:
Peppernuts are a cookie you either know about and love or you've never heard of. For me, these are full of family tradition and nostalgia! They're flavored with anise oil, but don’t roll your eyes and think black licorice. Instead, think of them as a perfect thing to make as a family and enjoy with coffee!
