Old Fashioned Chocolate Pie -with yoyomax12
This pie has very little dairy in it but taste rich and chocolaty. Makes a nice chocolate pudding too :)
Found this recipe in a Taste of Home magazine.
Caramel pie:
1 cup (210g) white granulated sugar
1/3 cup (33g) unsweetened baking cocoa
1/4 cup (32g) all-purpose flour
Pinch salt
2-1/4 cups (575 ml) water
1 tablespoon(15ml or 13g) butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
9 inch baked pastry shell
Whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles
In a large saucepan, combine the sugar, cocoa, flour and salt and gradually add the water. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened (it will not be super thick, but will thicken a lot more when cooling). Remove from the heat and stir in butter and vanilla.
Pour into pastry shell or into individual dessert cups. Refrigerate for 2-3 hours before serving. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. .

Ingredients
1-1/4 cups raw almonds
1-1/4 cups raw walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 to 1/2 cup dates
2 cups bittersweet chocolate, chopped
1 can full fat coconut milk
1/4 cup coconut oil (in the video, I use the terms coconut oil and coconut butter interchangeably. That's a mistake. They are actually not the same thing. I use coconut oil in this recipe. I have also tried it with coconut butter and it works just as well)
1/4 teaspoon salt
Tools/Equipment
Food processor
Eight-inch pie pan
Medium sauce pan
Instructions
Prepare the crust:
Pit the dates, tear each in half, and place them in the bowl of a food processor.
If the dates are very moist, use the lesser amount. If dry, use up to 1/2 cup (or more if you want). Add the almonds, walnuts, vanilla extract, and salt. Process these ingredients until the nuts are finely chopped and the mixture starts to stick together and fall in on itself. Adjust the amount of dates as necessary. Be careful not to grind the mixture into a paste. You want very coarse wet sand, not almond butter. Scrape the nut mixture into an eight-inch pie pan, and press it into a 1/4-inch crust, all over the bottom and up the sides of the pan.
Make the filling: Place the chopped chocolate and the 1/4 teaspoon salt in the bowl of the food processor (no need to wash it after making the crust). Heat the coconut butter and the coconut milk in a medium saucepan until the mixture just starts to boil. Pour the hot coconut milk mixture onto the chopped chocolate all at once. Allow it to sit there and hang out for a minute or two, then process the mixture until it is very smooth (you might want to wrap a dish towel around the rim of your food processor, just in case some of the mixture wants to escape and spray you and your entire kitchen with chocolate cream). Pour the chocolate cream into the crust.
Chill the pie: Place the pie in the refrigerator until it is just firm, about 30-45 minutes. Ideally, it should be served at just under room temperature. However, if you’ve made this way ahead of time, remove the firm pie from the refrigerator and allow to soften at room temperature for an hour or so.
