The Best Classic Tuna Casserole Ever! ????#foodie #food #shorts
Ingredients:
4 cups Large Egg Noodles
2 Celery Stalks (diced)
1 Small Onion (diced)
⅓ cup Whole Milk
⅔ cup Frozen Peas (defrosted)
(3) 5 oz Cans of Solid White Albacore in Water (drained)
(2) 10.5 oz Cans of Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
2 cups Sharp Cheddar Cheese (grated)
1 tbsp Fresh Parsley (chopped)
3 tsp Coarse Black Pepper
3 tsp Kosher Salt
Minimum 2-Quart Baking Dish
Breadcrumb Topping:
½ cup Panko Bread Crumbs
1 tbsp Unsalted Butter (melted)
½ cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese
1 tbsp Fresh Parsley (chopped)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
In a medium bowl, combine the breadcrumb topping ingredients. Mix until well incorporated and set aside.
Boil the noodles al dente according to package directions. Drain them in a colander and rinse them under cold water.
In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter, diced onion and celery, and 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp pepper. Cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
In a large bowl, combine the noodles, onion mixture, peas, mushroom soup, milk, cheese, tuna, parsley, 2 tsp salt, and 2 tsp of pepper.
Mix until everything is well incorporated. Taste and adjust with more salt and pepper if needed.
Spread the mixture into a 2-quart casserole dish and top it with the breadcrumb topping.
Bake for about 30 minutes until it’s bubbly, and a brown crust forms on top.

Ingredients:
3 cups or 300 grams of rotoni noodles or the noodle of your choice
1 stalk of celery, chopped
1 small diced onion
2/3 of a cup or 120 grams of frozen peas
6 oz or 160 grams of drained tuna
1 cup or 80 grams of old cheddar cheese
10 oz or 300 ml can of cream of mushroom soup
pepper to taste
For the Topping:
1/2 cup or 50 grams of bread crumbs
1/2 cup of 80 grams of old cheddar cheese
1 tbsp or 15 ml of melted butter
Method:
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F or 190 degrees C
Boil the noodles until al dente, strain, and transfer to a large mixing bowl.
Add in the celery, onion, tuna, pepper, and soup. Mix until well combined.
Place the mixture in a casserole dish.
To Make the Topping:
Add the bread crumbs, cheese, and butter to a bowl and mix until well combined.
Sprinkle the topping over the casserole and bake for 20 to 25 minutes until heated through and the breadcrumbs are brown.

I realize these things are quite subjective, but I’ve always considered this baked tuna and noodle dish to be the king of the comfort food casseroles. Except for maybe mac and cheese, which is sort of in a category by itself. This is the simplest version I know, and probably my favorite.

It's truly incredible how certain dishes we ate in our childhood and especially comfort food recipes can instantly take us back in time. This Tuna casserole does exactly that for me as I used to eat this on special occasions growing up.
Hurrell Family Tuna casserole Recipe:
8 tbsp unsalted butter
1 large onion medium dice
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
6 cups whole milk
4 oz sharp cheddar
12 oz salted canned tuna in olive oil
10 oz frozen peas
1 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 lb wide egg noodles of choice
Panko topping:
1 1/2 cups panko bread crumbs
3 1/2 tbsp unsalted melted butter
4 oz sharp cheddar cheese
1/4 tsp Maldon salt
