Honey Nut Cereal Bars - Everyday Food with Sarah Carey
Pop quiz: what's the perfect back-to-school dessert for every lunchbox? Answer: these honey nut cereal bars! Crunchy, sweet, and so simple to make, these packable snacks require almost no cooking -- just warm up a few ingredients on the stove and then let everything chill in the fridge. Chop, pack, and head out the door with your new favorite fall treat!
Sarah's Tip of the Day:
When lining your cake pan with parchment, allow at least an inch of over-hang on two sides so you can easily lift your treats out once they've set.

TOTAL TIME: 15 MINS
YIELD: Makes 16
INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
Pinch cinnamon
3 cups Cheerios (toasted oat cereal)
3/4 cup roasted unsalted almonds, roughly chopped
DIRECTIONS
STEP 1
Line an 8-inch square baking pan with 2 pieces of parchment paper.
STEP 2
Combine butter, sugar, honey, salt, and cinnamon in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue to boil for 1 to 2 minutes, then immediately remove from heat.
STEP 3
Stir in cereal and almonds. Pour into lined pan, pressing down with a rubber spatula. Let cool completely (about 30 minutes), and cut into 16 squares.
