The Easiest 2-Ingredient Chinese Tofu Pudding 豆腐花
Tofu pudding or 豆腐花 in Chinese is Carmen's favorite childhood dessert. It's pushed around by the dim sum ladies at yum cha and it's scooped fresh from a bamboo bucket. It is silken smooth, melts in your mouth with a hint of gingery sweetness. I would argue this is probably one of the healthiest desserts: you can adjust your own sugar, and it's made of soy beans! We found a way to make this delicious Cantonese dessert at home with only two ingredients: soy milk and gelatin.
Recipe:
500 ml soy milk, unsweetened or sweetened your choice
1 tbsp gelatine
Ginger syrup
1 cup water
3 slices smashed ginger
2 tbsp rock sugar
Method:
Heat soy milk to 70C or 167F - don’t worry if it’s not super precise. It’s good enough when little bubbles start forming on the side.
Mix in the gelatine and stir until everything is melted.
Pour the mixture through a sieve and into a bowl.
Chill for at least 4 hours.
Ginger syrup
Put the water, ginger, and rock sugar in a pot and boil until the sugar is melted.
Set aside to cool.
When the tofu pudding has solidified, you can eat it as is or gently scoop out thin layers of tofu in a smaller bowl.
Add your desired amount of ginger syrup.

2 INGREDIENTS INSTANT DOU FU HUA | CHINESE SOY MILK PUDDING | (EASY TOFU FA WITHOUT GYPSUM)
2 ingredients instant dou fu hua/ soy milk pudding
Saw this instant soy milk pudding all through out on YouTube, so today I decided to make it myself. This tofu fa turns out to be so good and it taste exactly like store bought but I think this version is much healthier. Some of them used (gelatine) but to make it plant based i use (agar-agar powder), it’s a plant based gelatine derived from seaweed.

Recipe:
1 Litre unsweetened soy milk
1 tsp agar-agar powder
Syrup:
180g palm sugar or brown sugar
200ml water
25g crushed ginger
2 pieces of pandan leafs (optional)
Method:
1.) Pour the soy milk into a saucepan. Add in the agar-agar powder. Stir to combine.
2.) Simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and strain the soy milk into a heat proof bowl. Remove the bubbles on the top.
3.) Once it’s room temperature, chill the tofu fa overnight in the fridge.
4.) In a small saucepan, pour all the syrup ingredients. Bring to boil until the palm sugar dissolved.
5.) Strain to discard the pandan leaves and ginger. Store the syrup in the fridge.
6.) Once the tofu fa is set, use a spoon to scoop them into a serving bowl. Pour 1-2 tbsp of ginger syrup on top of the tofu fa and enjoy.
Note:
1.) For this recipe I used unsweetened soy milk. If not it will turn too sweet after adding in the ginger syrup.
2.) Use any your fav sugar:
brown sugar, white sugar or palm sugar.
3.) If you don’t prefer ginger in your syrup, then omit the ginger.
4.) Chill the tofu fa at-least 6 hours or overnight.
