Corn Meal Biscuits Recipe ~ Noreen's Kitchen
Greetings! Tonight I am heating up some leftover pan chili that I made on Sunday. I went back and forth on what to do. I could have made tamale pie or chili with cornbread dumplings, but I decided to make these wonderful cornmeal biscuits.
These are just like a buttermilk, baking powder biscuit except with the addition of cornmeal. It makes a heartier biscuit that can stand up to a thick chili or stew. It is also wonderful slathered with butter and drizzled with honey. It is filling and nutritious. I like to have options when it comes to my food storage and this really fits the bill. You could make your flour and cornmeal stretch by employing this method of biscuit making.

How to Make Flaky Biscuits
Making homemade Biscuits is a breeze with this recipe! They are so easy to make from scratch, and all you need are 6 simple ingredients. With this easy recipe, your biscuits will come out super buttery and flaky on the inside and crisp outside. By the by, they are soooo delicious served warm with some homemade Honey Butter! Cornbread Biscuits-SHORT VERSION
Sour Cream and Onion Cornbread Biscuits
1-1/4 cup YELLOW CORNMEAL
1-1/4 cup ALL PURPOSE FLOUR
1 teaspoon SALT
1/2 teaspoon BLACK PEPPER
1/2 teaspoon BAKING SODA
10 tablespoons COLD BUTTER, diced
1 cup SOUR CREAM
4 GREEN ONIONS, sliced thinly
2 teaspoons HONEY or sugar
1/4 cup BUTTER, melted
FLAKY SEA SALT
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. In a large bowl combine cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper and baking soda. Whisk together. Add cold butter and cut in with a pastry cutter or use your hands to work into the dry ingredients until the butter is in pea sized pieces. Make a well in the middle of the mixture and add sour cream, green onions and honey in the well. Fold until the batter comes together. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead a couple of times to bring it together into a tidy ball. Pat into a circle and cut 12 to 13 rounds using a 2 inch biscuit cutter. Place on a well buttered cast iron skillet. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden.

- Maize flour 2 cup (cup size 250ml)
- Eggs x2
- Orange zest 1 tea spoon
- Baking Powder 1/2 tea spoon
- Cardamom 1/2 tea spoon
- Flour 1/2 cup (cup size 250ml)
- Sugar 1 cup (cup size 250ml)
- Vanilla Extract 1/2 tea spoon
- Pistachio Used for garnishing
- Butter 100 grams
Baking Time and Temperature (The oven must be pre-heated):
160 degree centigrade (Electricity oven without fan) for 10 minutes.
140 degree centigrade (Electricity oven with fan) for 10 minutes.
