How To make Apple Johnnycakes
-DOTTIE CROSS, TMPJ72B 6 tb Maple syrup
4 ts Unsalted butter; melted
2 lg Apples; peeled, cored and
-cut into 1/4" slices 3/4 c Yellow or white cormeal
-preferably stone ground 3/4 c -All-purpose flour
1 ts Baking powder
1/2 ts -Salt
1/4 ts Baking soda
1 c Buttermilk
1 lg Egg; lightly beaten
1 tb Vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Heat 2 T. maple syrup and 1 tsp. butter in a heavy 10-inch ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add apples and saute for about 5 minutes, or until slightly softened. Remove from heat. Using two spoons, arrange the slices, fanning them out from the center of the skillet. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, stir together cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. In a small mixing bowl, beat together buttermilk, egg, remaining 1//4 cup maple syrup, remaining 1 T. melted butter and oil. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon until just combined. Spread the batter evenly over the apples and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Invert onto a platter, cut into wedges and serve immediately, topped with more syrup. Old Fashioned Apple Fritters are a simple sweet treat that will bring back sweet memories. There is nothing better for breakfast than a fresh hot apple fritter. They are the perfect dessert to transition us into the fall season.
There are no fancy or expensive ingredients, so you won’t need to go shopping to make them and you won’t have trouble finding ingredients during these hard times.
Apple Fritters have been around for hundreds of years and they are so good they will be around for hundreds of years longer. You won’t believe how good these taste and how inexpensive they are to make. If you are on a budget this is a real treat that won’t break the bank.
When I was a kid, we couldn’t wait for the apples to get ripe so Granny would make apple fritters. In this video I will show you how she made them and how to make them with chopped apples. I will also give you several ideas for topping them.

APPLE CAKE | Old-Fashioned STYLE | Makes 13X9 Baking Pan | EASY DIY
Old-Fashioned APPLE CAKE...loaded with apples, walnuts, & cinnamon!! So easy to make, yet the BEST APPLE CAKE you'll ever eat!! Recipe below...
OLD-FASHIONED APPLE CAKE
Lightly grease and flour a 13X9 Baking Pan. Set aside.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1-3/4 to 2 cups sugar
1 cup canola oil or substitute with vegetable oil
3 large eggs, room temperature
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 cups (2 medium tart apples) finely chopped and peeled
1 cup chopped walnuts or substitute with pecan or omit
Serve with vanilla ice-cream, custard, or whipped topping, optional
1. Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a medium size mixing bowl. Set aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl add sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla. Beat ingredients together until well blended, about 1 minute. Add half the dry ingredients. Beat until flour is blended. Add additional flour mixture. Beat until flour is blended and can no longer be seen.
3. Fold in chopped apples and walnuts until well coated with cake batter.
4. Add to prepared 13X9 baking dish. Evenly smooth out batter with spatula. Tap pan on flat surface to remove any air packets.
5. Bake in preheated oven for 45-55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle come out clean.
6. Cool on wire cooling rack for 1 hour before slicing.
7. Serve with sprinkle powdered sugar, vanilla ice-cream, custard, and/or whipped topping, if desired.
TIPS: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3 days.
