How to Make Chinese Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs (糖醋排骨)
See full recipe here:
Sweet and sour is always a perfect combination when it comes to food in general. This delicious dish is surprisingly simple and easy to make. No deep-frying needed. It was one of my favorite comfort foods when I was a child. I couldn't stop once I started eating it and always licked the bowl at the end. Now I am a mom of two boys. It's my turn to make this dish memorable for my kids. They love it! If you try it, you will definitely want to make it again the next day!
Most regular grocery stores don't cut the pork ribs across the bones which is the baby back ribs, like the video showed above. In most Asian markets, they either cut it across the bones or into pieces that are ready to cook. Cutting into pieces is easier for stir-fry. When choosing the pork ribs, I usually pick the skinny bones. It not only quickly absorbs the flavors from the sauce, but also shortens cooking time for the ribs to be tender.
Ingredients:
500 g Pork Ribs
1 tablespoon Shaoxing Rice Wine
2 tablespoons soy sauce
3 tablespoons Sugar or Rock Sugar
4 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
1 Star Anise
1 tablespoon Dark Soy Sauce
Salt to Taste

Sweet & Sour Beef Short Ribs with Michael's Home Cooking
This is a Sweet and Sour BBQ Sauce Beef Short Ribs Recipe. This bakes in the oven for 4 hours. A great sauce with tender short ribs, please read description for full instructions. You can use 1 and 1/2 pounds to 2 and 1/2 pounds of short ribs for this recipe.
Ingredients:
1 and 1/2 pounds to 2 and 1/2 pounds beef short ribs
salt/pepper/all purpose flour
2 or 3 Tablespoons oil for browning
11 X 8 baking dish or a dutch oven
1 small onion sliced
4 slices of pork belly or bacon
1 and 1/4 cups of red wine for REALLY great FLAVOR (merlot)
Sauce:
3/4 cup ketchup
2 Tablespoons white vinegar
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
1/4 cup soy sauce
3/4 cup water OR the leftover wine from the braising
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
Method:
Salt, pepper and flour your short ribs.
Brown them in a skillet and then place them into your baking dish.
I used a 11 X 8 inch dish.
Places slices of onion over the ribs.
Place slices of pork belly or bacon over onion silices.
Cover baking dish and bake 350F for two hours.
While baking the first two hours, mix your sauce ingredients.
Remove from oven after two hours and cool for 10/15 minutes so you are less likely to burn yourself.
Pour off the wine braise into a separate container.
Allow the grease to come up and skim off the grease after 30 minutes.
You can now save this to use later for a wonderful Wine Sauce Gravy.
After pouring off the first braise liquid, now add your sauce.
Cover again and bake 350F for another two hours.
Remove the ribs from the baking dish and keep warm.
Pour your new braise sauce into a small pot and reduce for 5 minutes over fairly high heat.
You are ready to serve your ribs with the reduced sauce.
You will be eating something awesome.
The pork belly also cooks up very nicely.
The onions pretty much disappear while baking.
