Prawns in Coconut Milk | Prawn Curry | Prawn Curry with Coconut Milk | Shrimp Curry | Shrimps in Coconut Milk | Shrimp Curry with Coconut Milk | Prawn Gravy | Prawn Curry by Spice Eats
Ingredients for Prawn Curry with Coconut Milk:
- 500 gms. Prawns - Net 250-300 gms. after shelling and deveining
Tempering:
- Mustard Seeds- 3/4 tsp
- Dried Red Chillies- 3 (halved)
- Curry Leaves- 10- 15 leaves
Spice Powders:
- Turmeric Powder- 3/4 tsp
- Black Pepper Powder- 1/2 tsp
- Coriander Powder- 1 tsp
- Fennel Powder- 1/2 tsp
- Cumin Powder- 1/4 tsp
Other Ingredients:
- White Onion, grated- 1 large (100 gms)
- Ginger Garlic Paste- 1 tsp
- Green Chillies, slit- 3
- Tomato, chopped- 1 large (100 gms)
- Thin Coconut Milk- 1 cup (If using readymade coconut milk, 3 tbsp coconut milk mixed with 1 cup water)
- Thick Coconut Milk- 3 tbsp
- Lemon Juice- 1 tsp
- Coriander Leaves- 2 tbsp
- Salt- 1 tsp
- Oil- 2-3 tbsp
Preparation:
- Shell, devein & wash the prawns. Leave it in a colander for the water to drain.
- Grate the onion, chop the tomato and the coriander leaves, slit the green chillies.
- Prepare the coconut milk, ready made coconut milk can also be used.
Process:
- Heat oil in a kadai/wok and add the mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add the halved dried red chillies and curry leaves.
- Now add the grated onion and fry on medium to low heat for 4-5 mins till it starts changing colour.
- Add the ginger garlic paste, mix & fry on low heat for around 2 mins till the mixture is light brown in colour.
- Now add the chopped tomato and 1 tsp salt, mix and cook on low heat for around 2 mins till soft.
- Add all the spice powders, give a mix and fry on medium heat for 2 mins with a splash of water.
- Now add the prawns & sauté on medium heat for 1-2 mins.
- Add the thin coconut milk, give a mix and cover & cook on low heat for 2 mins.
- Remove lid, add the thick coconut milk and cook on low heat for another 2 mins.
- Add 1 tsp lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves, give a mix and serve hot.

Restaurant style prawn mango curry
Prawns 1 kg
(I used white prawns for this curry )
25 no’s shallots
2 inch ginger
20 cloves of garlic
5 no green chilly
2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
1/2 tsp chilly powder
2 cup thick fresh coconut milk ( 1 full big size coconut)
Coconut powder 4tbs
2 medium size raw mango
2 large tomatoes
For tempering mustard seeds and small onion
Method
Mince onion into small pieces . then mince ginger , garlic, and green chilly. Heat a pot , here I used clay pot. Add coconut oil , then add minced onion sauté , sauté well then add minced ginger garlic green chilli. U don’t need to saute until it turns brown. Meanwhile u can cut Raw mango and tomatoes.. Add tomatoes to the Sauted onion , sauté until mushy , simmer the flame and add turmeric powder, coriander powder and both chilly powders . No need to to saute so long just few seconds is enough. Then add raw mango and salt sauté for few seconds and add prawns . Cook the prawns with lid covered . Remember to keep the flame low . Let the masala and the prawns mix really well. Add 2 cups thick coconut milk stir for a while. Mix 4 tbs coconut powder with 1/4 cup normal water and add this to the prepared prawn gravy . This is the key ingredient which gives the curry restaurant taste and creaminess
This goes really well with ghee rice , and chicken fry:)

PRAWN CURRY | PRAWN MANGO COCONUT MILK CURRY
INGREDIENTS
prawns - 500 gms
shallots - 1 cup
green chilies - 5
ginger garlic paste - ½ tsp
turmeric powder - ¼ tsp
chili powder - 1 tsp
coriander powder - 2 tsp
cumin powder - ¼ tsp
garam masala - ¼ tsp
thin coconut milk - 1½ cup
thick coconut milk - 1 cup
mango
oil
salt
mustard
curry leaves
METHOD OF PREPARATION
1.In a mud pot heat some oil and saute 1 cup shallots until its well cooked.
2.When the shallots become soft add 5 green chilies,½ tsp ginger garlic paste and a few curry leaves.
3.When the shallots are well cooked add ¼ tsp turmeric powder,1 tsp chili powder,2 tsp coriander powder,¼ tsp cumin powder and ¼ tsp garam masala.Saute until the raw smell of spices goes.
4.Add 1½ cup thin coconut milk.Mix well.
5.Add 1 mango with required salt and let it boil.
6.Once the mango is half cooked add 500 gms prawn and cook it well.Do not cook prawns more than 7-8 minutes.It depends upon the size of the prawn.
7.Once the prawns are cooked and 1 cup thick coconut milk and off the flame when it heats up.Do not boil too much after adding the thick coconut milk.
8.In a small pan heat some oil,splutter a few mustard and add some curry leaves.Add it to the prawn curry
