How To make Bewitching Cookies
3/4 c Shortening
1/4 c Unsalted butter
1 1/2 c Packed light brown sugar
2 lg Eggs; lightly beaten
2 tb Grated orange peel
1/4 c Orange juice
1 ts Vanilla
1 c Buttermilk
3 1/2 c Sifted all-purpose flour
2 ts Baking powder
1 ts Baking soda
1/4 ts Salt
1 c Semisweet chocolate morsels
Recipe by: St. Louis Post-Dispatch 10/28/96 Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Using electric mixer, cream together shortening, butter and brown sugar in large bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, orange peel, orange juice, vanilla and buttermilk until well-combined. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in separate bowl. Blend into butter mixture until combined. Stir in chocolate morsels. Drop batter by teaspoonfuls onto 2 greased baking sheets. Bake 12 Janice Wald Henderson. -----

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups white chocolate chunks
1 cup macadamia nuts, chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup candied cherries
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 375°.
Step 2
In a medium bowl, with electric mixer, cream butter and sugars together until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Set aside.
Step 3
Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add milk then add flour, soda and salt to butter mixture. In another bowl, combine nuts, cherries and white chocolate. Then add to mixture, stirring only to blend.
Step 4
Drop by heaping tablespoons onto a greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart.
Step 5
Bake for approximately 11-13 minutes. Cool on wire rack.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies. Enjoy for yourself or your cookie swap!
