How To make Baking Powder Biscuits with Onions
1 ea Medium onion
1 ea Shallot
11 tb Margerine
1 c Cold skim milk
2 c All-purpose flour
1 c Cake flour
1 tb Baking powder
Heat oven to 400. Line baking sheet with parcment or wax paper. Peel and mince onion & shallot. Saute these in 1 tbs margerine in skillet until softened, about 5 minutes. Cool, stir in milk and set aside. *Mix flours, baking powder and 1 tsp salt in food processor workbowl (metal blade). Cut 9 tbs margerine into small pcs. and pulse until mixture resembles course meal. Pulse in the milk/onion mixture until dough just holds together. Transfer to a floured board and knead 10 times. Roll dough 3/4 inch thick and cut into 1 1/2 inch squares. Brush remaining margerine on bisquit tops. Bake until brown, about 18 minutes. Cheese (and Green Onion) Biscuits! In this video you will learn how to make flaky, cheesy biscuits! These are great for eating alone or making into breakfast sandwiches! Lana doubled the recipe for the video, below is a recipe that makes a half recipe, or 8 biscuits. If you want the full 16 multiply all ingredients by 2.
Biscuits (based on bon appetit's sour cream and green onion biscuits)
Makes 8 biscuits
8 green onions, sliced thinly
12 tablespoons of butter, cut into pieces
2 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
1 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/4 teaspoon sugar
2 1/2 cups flour
1 1/4 cups sour cream
1 or 1 1/2 cups shredded or grated cheese
In a large bowl, mix together flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Cut in the butter using pastry cutter, forks, or fingers until the butter is about pea sized. Fold in green onions and cheese. Add in the sour cream and mix gently. Turn out on floured surface. Pat the dough into a rectangle. Fold like a letter. Roll it out, and repeat two more times. Pat the dough into a rectangle again and cut into 8 equal sized squares. Put biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Brush each top with cream and bake in a 425 degree oven for 18-23 minutes.
