How to make apple fritters
Put a spin on in-season apples – turn them into lightly-spiced apple fritters! Coat apple slices in a delicious ginger beer batter (RECIPE BELOW), then fry them up and serve with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice-cream. We dare you to try and stop at just one.

APPLE FRITTERS WITH GINGER BEER BATTER
Serves 4 Prep 10 mins Cooking 15 mins
1 cup (150g) self-raising flour
½ tsp ground ginger
¼ tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 cup (250ml) chilled ginger beer
¹⁄³ cup (75g) caster sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Vegetable oil, to shallow-fry
3 apples, cored, cut into 1cm-thick slices
1. Combine flour, ginger and bicarbonate of soda in a large bowl. Add ginger beer and whisk until a smooth batter forms.
2. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a large shallow bowl.
3. Heat the oil in a large deep frying pan over medium-high heat.
4. Dip one-quarter of the apple slices in the batter to lightly coat. Carefully add to the hot oil in a single layer. Cook for 2 mins or until light golden. Turn and cook for 1 min or until crisp. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a plate lined with paper towel. Add to sugar mixture and toss to lightly coat. Place on a serving plate. Repeat in 3 more batches with remaining apples and batter.
Serve with vanilla ice-cream and bought salted caramel sauce.

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsp. granulated sugar
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 cup milk
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
1 large egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 large apples (1 lb.)
4 cups canola oil
1 tbsp. confectioners’ sugar
EASY STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Combine the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large bowl. Place the milk, butter, egg and vanilla in a medium bowl. Whisk until blended. Stir the milk mixture into the flour mixture until just moistened. Set aside.
2. Peel, core and slice each apple into ten 1/4-inch-thick rings.
3. Heat the oil in a large saucepan or deep-fat fryer to 350°F or until a cube of bread dropped in the oil browns in 1 minute. Dip the apple rings into the batter, turning to coat evenly.Deep-fry the apples in 5–6 batches, turning once, until crisp and golden, about 2 minutes per batch. Drain on paper towels. Dust with the confectioners’ sugar. Serve warm.

Old Fashioned Apple Fritters are a simple sweet treat that will bring back sweet memories. There is nothing better for breakfast than a fresh hot apple fritter. They are the perfect dessert to transition us into the fall season.
There are no fancy or expensive ingredients, so you won’t need to go shopping to make them and you won’t have trouble finding ingredients during these hard times.
Apple Fritters have been around for hundreds of years and they are so good they will be around for hundreds of years longer. You won’t believe how good these taste and how inexpensive they are to make. If you are on a budget this is a real treat that won’t break the bank.
When I was a kid, we couldn’t wait for the apples to get ripe so Granny would make apple fritters. In this video I will show you how she made them and how to make them with chopped apples. I will also give you several ideas for topping them.
