Lettuce Wraps
An idea that’s totally out of the ordinary, easy to execute but all set to please... get ready to try out our innovative Lettuce Wraps. A colourful and crunchy assortment of veggies, sautéed lightly and mixed into a stuffing, is wrapped in lettuce leaves lined with a herby plum sauce and pungent garlic sauce. A sprinkling of spring onions adds to the taste and textural aspects of this unusual Lettuce Wrap making it an experience that denotes excitement in every dimension. Using sesame oil makes these wraps tastier and healthier too.
Preparation Time: 25 minutes.
Cooking Time: 6 minutes.
Makes 14 wraps.
For the vegetable stuffing
½ cup finely chopped carrot
½ cup finely chopped baby corn
5 tbsp finely chopped French beans
¾ cup finely chopped cabbage
1 tbsp sesame oil
A pinch of baking soda
½ tsp green chilli paste
Salt to taste
¼ cup finely chopped bean sprouts
2 tbsp roasted and powdered peanuts
2 tbsp pinenuts
To be mixed into a sauce
2 tbsp readymade plum sauce
¼ tsp dried thyme
¼ tsp dried parsley
Other ingredients
14 Iceberg lettuce leaves
3½ tsp red garlic sauce
7 tbsp finely chopped spring onion greens
For the vegetable stuffing
1. Heat the sesame oil in a broad non-stick pan, add the carrot, baby corn, French beans, cabbage and baking soda and sauté on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
2. Add the green chilli paste and salt and sauté on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes.
3. Add the bean sprouts and sauté on a medium flame for 10 seconds.
4. Switch off the flame, add the peanuts and pinenuts and mix well. Keep aside.
How to proceed
1. Divide the vegetable stuffing into 14 equal portions. Keep aside.
2. Place a lettuce leaf on a clean, dry surface, put a little plum sauce in the centre and spread it evenly.
3. Place a portion of the vegetable stuffing on it and spread it evenly.
4. Finally spread ¼ tsp of red garlic sauce and sprinkle ½ tbsp of spring onion greens evenly over it.
5. Roll it up tightly and seal it with a toothpick.
6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 to make 13 more wraps.
Serve immediately.

This delightful dish is bursting with beautiful and healthy flavors and is so easy to make. And the best part is that you can serve it as a starter or a side.
Ingredients: (Serves 4)
Iceberg Lettuce
3/4 cup water
2 tsp cornflour or cornstarch
1 tsp sugar
3 tbsp sesame oil
1 tbsp ginger
2 cups vegetables, finely chopped (cabbage, beans, carrot, corn)
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 dry red chili, roasted
pepper
salt
2 tbsp toasted walnuts, crushed
Method:
- Separate the Ice berg lettuce leaves and soak them in ice cold water. This will help to keep the leaves crisp. So, do not miss this step.
- In a bowl, put in 3/4th cup water and mix in the cornstarch and sugar. Keep aside.
- In a wok, heat the sesame oil and put in the ginger. Stir fry it for a minute and then add all the finely chopped vegetables.
- Stir fry all the vegetables, until done for about 4 to 5 minutes.
- Put in the water cornflour mixture, soy sauce, crushed red chili, pepper and salt. Cook until the sauce thickens, which should take about 3 to 4 minutes. Take off the heat and sprinkle in the toasted walnuts.
- Place a portion of the vegetables over a crisp lettuce cup and repeat with the other leaves until the vegetables are used up.
- Serve as a starter or a side.
