New Hawai'i Harvest - 1991
This vintage video, made when 'Ōlelo Community Television was a newly funded entity, explores the rich cultural and botanical diversity of Oahu's community gardens in 1991. Biodiversity was a keen interest of mine early in my career as a dietitian/nutritionist, and back then I was honored and delighted to be able to produce this piece of work. I haven't lived on Oahu since 1993, and don't know if these incredible gardens and garden communities still thrive.
The rhetoric in this about cholesterol and sodium makes me cringe! Functional nutrition knowledge has evolved a lot in the last 30 years. Forgive that chatter and enjoy the time piece that this is. We used the best available technology at the time to produce this video and though this was uploaded from the broadcast original, the quality is weaker than what we so easily create today with a PHONE. ????????♀️ Enjoy!
