Ready for dinner in less than 30 minutes, this Sweet and Sour Shrimp is the perfect quick weeknight meal. Made with a combination of quick-cooking shrimp, bell peppers, and pineapple chunks combined with a delicious sticky sweet and sour sauce, your family will be reaching for seconds.

One of my favorite proteins to work with is shrimp as they take only a couple of minutes to cook. They're such a great ingredient to keep in the freezer as they go from frozen to thawed in 10 to 20 minutes in some cold water! This means you can make this sweet and sour shrimp in next to no time on busy weeknights. It's definitely faster than heading out to pick up take-out.

Sweet and Sour Shrimp or gu lao xia is a very well known Cantonese dish. It was originally made with pork, but nowadays with you can make any protein.

For the Shrimp:
1 1/2 pound shrimp, without heads, deveined, peeled, and butterflied
Pinch of salt
Pinch of white pepper
Dash of rice wine
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water
1 egg
1 1/2 cups cornstarch
4 cups vegetable oil, for frying
For the Vegetables:
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 small onion, cubed
1/4 green bell pepper, cubed
1/4 red bell pepper, cubed
1/4 cup pineapple, cubed
3 cloves garlic, minced
For the Sauce:
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
2 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons sugar
1 cup chicken stock
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 tablespoon water

SWEET AND SOUR PRAWN
Recipe:
- 500g prawn (slit aling the middle without peeling its shell and remove the dark vein, then marinate with 1 tsp salt and turmeric powder)
- 1/2 dutch onion
- 1/2 capsicum
- 1 tbsp chilli paste
- 1 tbsp chilli sauce
- 1 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- salt and sugar (optional)

Ingredients:
Shrimp Preparation
2 Cup Shrimp
½ Tsp Salt
½ Tsp Pepper
1 Tsp Soy Sauce
1 Tbsp Corn Flour
2 Tbsp All Purpose Flour
1 Pc Egg
1 Tsp Cooking Oil
Sauce
¾ Cup Ketchup
2 Tbsp Rice Vinegar
½ Cup Water
1 Tbsp Sugar
¼ Salt
Cooking
2 Tbsp Cooking Oil
½ Cup Red Onion
½ Cup cucumber
4-5 Pc Green Chili
1 Tbsp Corn Starch
2 Tbsp Water
Garnish
1 Tbsp Green Onion
Instructions:
1. Mine the shrimps
2. Create a dough like consistency with shrimps, salt, pepper, soy sauce, corn flour, all purpose flour, egg, and cooking oil
3. Take about a tablespoon of the shrimp mixture and deep fry until golden brown
4. In a pan, add cooking oil, red onion, fried shrimp balls, cucumber, green chili, and the sauce
5. In a bowl, corn starch with water and add to the pan
6. Stir for 2 minutes then remove from heat and garnish with green onion
7. Enjoy!
