Pat a cake, pat a cake, baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Pat it and prick it and mark it with B
And put it in the oven for baby and me
Pat a cake, pat a cake, baker's man
Bake me a cake as fast as you can
Roll it up, roll it up, throw it in a pan

Old Recipe For Tea Cakes, Thanks Patty
Here's Patty's great-great grandmother's recipe:
Patty Miles 21 hours ago (edited)
Hi Mrs Phyllis- I make my grandmothers tea cake cookies all the time and I believe I know exactly what Mr.Bucky is talking about. This recipe was passed down from my great - great grandmother to my Mamaw who passed it on to her daughters.- and so on. She was from Tennessee. When my mother became ill and was no longer able to stir the batter with a wooden spoon and no mixer strong enough to mix the dough- she ended up using her hand to mix the dough and we've been using that method ever since. Saves a ton and I mean a ton of time. The end result is a tea cookie that tastes real sweet, buttery, and a slightly salty with crispy or crunchy edges. Out of this world is the destinct flavor of these cookies. I hope you try these. By the way- when the dough is formed its sticky- and you just literally reach in the bowl and pinch off teaspoon sized or tablespoon sized amount and roll them into a ball and put on baking sheet. No flour - and no mashing down like a biscuit. It will do all that itself in the oven. I KNOW this sounds as crazy as it gets but it's the way it goes. Just try it and I guarantee you y'all will LOVE the taste and how easy it is to make them. And I just feel certain this is exactly the tea cake cookie his grandmother made.
Here's the recipe:
1 1/2 c sugar
1 c butter (2sticks)softened
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/2 c white lily self rising flour
Believe it or not start with the sugar and just down the line and put every ingredient in the bowl- the dive in with your two hands and mix. When it's completely mixed, the dough will sort of pull away from the edge of the bowl. Make balls and put on any size pan you have. Makes up to 2dozen depending on the size you make. Cook at 350 and when u see the edges begin to turn a medium golden color or darker if u prefer- their done.
Thanks Patty, these tea cakes are delicious. Mr. Bucky also says thanks Patty. This recipe is a keeper for sure.
Thank for watching.
