Cookmas Day 17: Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix-Filled Christmas Ornaments! Hang these on your Christmas tree or give as a cute present! Just add hot water and enjoy creamy hot chocolate!
Hot Chocolate Mix-Filled Ornaments RECIPE BELOW:
Ingredients (per ornament, each ornament makes 2 cups hot chocolate)
clear plastic ornaments for filling
¼ cup powdered coffee creamer
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
¼ cup skim milk powder (or coconut milk powder)
¼ cup confectioner’s sugar
mini marshmallow bits
mini chocolate chips
salted caramel chips
mini reese’s pieces
festive sprinkles
edible glitter

One of the best parts of Christmas is decorating the tree! Discover how to make salt dough ornaments to display on your tree! This salt dough recipe is super easy and a lot of fun for kids!
Welcome to Moose Mischief, where we learn about our amazing world while creating art, making DIY crafts and conducting science experiments!!! Moose Mischief features fun videos with nature and Alaskan themes. The videos are inspired by my cartoon characters, Cooper and the moose, who live in Alaska. Check out their silly antics in my book, “Moose Mischief: A Pancake Surprise!”
For this easy DIY for kids, I will show them how to make ornaments out of salt dough in the shapes of a Christmas tree, snowflake, snowmen and snowflake. I will take them step-by-step through the salt dough recipe. It’s super simple and a fun activity for kids!
This art and craft is ideal for children ages 5 and older with adult supervision. It takes about 3 hours to complete.
For the salt dough recipe, you will need measuring cups for dry ingredients, a glass measuring cup, cookie cutters, a rolling pin, skewers, a tablespoon, vegetable oil, flour, salt, wax paper, a bowl, a baking sheet and a cutting board.
To decorate the ornaments, you will need paintbrushes, paint, fabric, glitter, stickers and a paper plate. To hang them on the Christmas tree, you will want to use string and paper clips.

How to Make Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments | Recipe and tutorial
A Christmas tutorial on how to make paw print, hand or foot print ornaments baking soda dough!
Happy holidays!
-Savana
Directions:
1/2 cup corn starch
1 cup baking soda
3/4 cup water
-Mix corn starch, baking soda and water well in a mixing bowl.
-Pour mixture into a sauce pan and heat over medium heat.
-Wisk until the mixture turns into a paste
-Remove from heat and let cool in your mixing bowl
-Knead well once it has cooled a bit
-Roll dough on corn starch to prevent sticking
-Add more corn starch to dough if it is too wet/sticky
-Once rolled out press in paw, hand or foot print and then use a glass or cookie cutter around the print
-Use a straw to make a hole for your string/ribbon to hang
Air dry method:
Let dry for approx 2 days or until dried out
Oven method:
-Preheat oven to 175 F
-Bake until dried out- check often for cracking
-I baked for about 60 mins each side (it will depend on how thick you rolled out your dough
-Sand rough edges
-Decorate however you like- acrylic paint works well
-Seal with mod podge and enjoy!
