Molded Cinnamon Salt Dough Ornaments Recipe & Tutorial | Christmas Crafts | Miss Mustard Seed
I made these molded ornaments out of cinnamon salt dough (a faux gingerbread) as just a way to use up extra dough when I was making salt dough gingerbread houses, but this experiment was the real winner! I love how they turned out, so I made them again to film a quick tutorial. They are super easy to make and can be used for many years. They would also make great gifts.
Recipe -
1 cup all-purpose flour (plus a little more for dusting and if flour is too wet)
1/2 cup table salt
3/4 cup ground cinnamon
3/4 cup of water (plus a little more, if dough is too crumbly)
Mix together all ingredients until they are combined. Dump onto a lightly floured surface and knead. Add more water or flour 1 teaspoon at a time until dough holds together when squeezed in your fist.
Press into a mold with your hand and cut off extra with a bench scraper (or a knife.) Gently lift dough out of the mold and put on a baking sheet. Poke a hole at the top of each ornament.
Bake at 200 degrees for 30 minutes with the tops facing up, then turn over and cook for another 30 minutes. Allow to cool on a cooling rack. Thread ribbon or twine through the hole with a tapestry needle.

DIY Salt Dough Christmas Ornaments Best Recipe
Hi everyone! Today I wanted to share with you the best recipe I have found for salt dough to make Christmas ornaments. I have tried many different variations of salt dough, but I think I have found the secret to make the best dough, which makes the best ornaments.
Best Salt dough Recipe:
You will need:
1 cup of flour
1 cup of sea salt
1 cup of warm water
Pour the flour and salt into a metal mixing bowl, and add about 3/4 cup of warm water. Using a bread hook on the mixer, blend the ingredients well. The dough should stick together, and if it is too dry add a little more water. If it is too sticky add a little more flour.
The dough should form a ball.
Then takeout the dough and put it on a large sheet of parchment paper.
Roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness, and using cookie cutters, cut shapes and then place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
Once you have cut out all of your shapes, you can add a hanger if you like. I added a hanger to each ornament made from paperclips.
Bake at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for about 45 minutes. You will want to watch to make sure your ornaments don't burn, or get too dark.
Once the ornaments are baked, remove from the oven and allow to cool.
You can then paint your ornaments if you like, or if you have a dremmel, you can sand the edges of the ornaments to give them a crisp appearance.
Then paint the ornaments, and decorate how ever you like.
After the paint has dried, I like to seal them with Mod Podge. This will make them last longer.
Then add a hanger, and your ornaments are done!
This recipe has worked the best of any salt dough I have tried. You can make your ornaments with polymer clay too, but I had better results with the salt dough, and it cost a lot less.
