Deviled Ham Salad Spread Recipe! Noreen's Kitchen
Greetings! I had some ham steaks in the fridge that I needed to use and we have to have something yummy on hand for lunches and snacks. So I decided to make this deviled ham salad spread. This is inspired by the Underwood deviled ham in a can from my youth. Which used to be yummy, but as an adult, I find it to be a bit on the fatty side with lots of salt. It is a canned meat, after all, so I think we can do better. And we did!
I am using my food processor for this spread, but I have seen people use their meat grinder on the finest setting to grind this all up to a perfect consistency. I added some onion, sweet pickle relish, honey mustard, grainy mustard, mayo, garlic powder, celery seed and cheddar cheese to the ham and let it grind to a smooth finish. You can choose to add in other things that you enjoy such as dill pickles, pepperoncini, roasted peppers etc. You are the boss of your spread!
I hope you give this a try and I hope you love it. Remember, you can always find the recipe on my website at the link below.

PA DUTCH/AMISH HAM SALAD
Wondering what to do with your leftover ham, or just hungry for amazing ham salad? This is it! There are many ways to make it, but this is my favorite and what I grew up with here. A staple in PA Dutch country!
HAM SALAD
Ingredients
1 ½ pounds boneless cooked ham (leftover or purchased thick slab, trimmed of fat and diced)
1 hard-boiled egg
1 stalk pepper, roughly chopped
2 teaspoons finely chopped onion
2 teaspoons sweet pickle relish
¾ cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
assorted crackers and/or soft rolls, or chips, or celery stalks
Instructions
Put the ham, egg, pepper and onion into a blender or food processor
Pulse (short, quick pulses) 20-25 times to mince.
Scrape down the sides of the food processor to make sure it all gets combined evenly.
Combine remaining ingredients into a separate bowl (sweet pickle relish, mayonnaise and mustard)
Then stir in minced ham mixture.
Cover and chill. I prefer to chill it for several hours. It definitely gets better as it chills for a while.
Serve on rolls, biscuits or as a spread for crackers or in celery stalks or rolled up in lettuce leaves!
