Kalua Pork
Kalua Pork is traditionally prepared in an imu (Hawaiian underground oven), but Chef Keoni Chang shares this alternative way to get very similar results in the convenience of your home oven. The result is a tender, juicy Kalua Pork that can be used in a variety of recipes, like our Kalua Pig Nachos:

Episode 1: How to Cook Kalua Pig in a crockpot.
Cooking kalua pig out of a crockpot could taste just as good out of the ground in an imu. You can be the judge of that one. This is a new series where I learn how to cook some of the foods my family made (in our restaurant, called Pacific Paradise Cuisine) and some other favorite foods. These dishes often need ingredients that can only be found in Asian stores in the mainland.
The time when cooking starts in the video: 3:58
Ingredients needed-
Pork butt
2 tbsp Coarse salt or more for if you prefer
1/2 c Liquid smoke
Water
Cooking Process:
1. Place the pork butt fat down in the crockpot.
2. Rub the top of the pork butt with salt
3. Pour liquid smoke over the pork butt
4. Fill the crockpot with water to cover the meat.
5. Cover and turn the crockpot on high until meat starts to fall apart. About 4-5 hours or overnight.
