1 1/2 c Unsifted all-purpose flour 1 ts Salt 1 c Granulated sugar 2 Eggs 2 c Old-fashioned rolled oats 1 ts Baking soda 1 c Solid vegetable shortening 1 ts Vanilla 1 c Light brown sugar, packed 12 oz Semisweet chocolate chips Preheat oven to 350F. Grease baking sheets. Combine flour, salt, and baking soda on waxed paper. Beat together shortening, sugars, and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer until creamy. Add eggs, beating until light and fluffy. Gradually beat in flour mixture and rolled oats. Mix in chocolate chips. Drop batter by well-rounded measuring teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake in preheated 350F oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Cool cookies on sheets on wire rack 2 minutes. Remove to wire rack to cool completely. -----

So Much More Than Brunch
I'm very familiar with the word brunch. It comes up a lot in my apartment. For some reason my roommate and her boyfriend are very enamored with it, always energetically inviting me to go with them as I stumble to the coffee pot on any given weekend morning. My answers are always something between a snort and a snarl but needless to say, the word brunch is very prominent in my life. So I was already a little familiar with the Clinton Street Baking Company before going there. A place known for having lines out the door and around the block of people waiting for a stack of famous blueberry pancakes or a hearty plate of eggs. But let me tell you, they are so much more than brunch.
