How To make Bean, Ham and Pasta Soup
1 cup dried pinto beans
rinsed and drained
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 pound smoked ham hocks :
chopped
1 medium onion finely chopped
2 cloves garlic :
minced
2 2/3 cups double strength chicken broth
3 cups water
1/4 cup tomato paste
1/2 cup spaghetti -- broken in 1" pieces
or bow-tie pasta or shells 1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
In a large bowl, combine the beans and enough water to cover by 2 inches. Let stand overnight; drain well.
In a large skillet,heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the ham, onion, and celery and cook, stirring often until lightly browned, about 6 minutes. Add t he garlic and cook, stirring often, for 1 minute. Add the chicken broth, stirr ing to scrape up the browned bits on the bottom of the skillet. Transfer to a 3 1/2-quart slow cooker.
add the drained beans, water, and tomato paste. Cover and slow cook until the beans are tender, 7 to 8 hours on Low or 4 to 5 hours on High.
Stir in the pasta, salt, and pepper. Turn heat to high and cook until pasta is tender, about 30 to 60 minutes.
Using a large spoon, crush enough of the beans against the sides of the slow co oker to reach the consistency you like. Serve immediately.
Serves 6 to 8

How To Make Ham Bone Soup - Tuesday July 4
An easy recipe for anyone who wants to make Soup at home. A wonderful skill to add to any Homemaking repertoire. Part of my How To Series. See the whole Series here:
Ham Bone Soup Recipe
1 meaty Ham bone and 1/2 cup Ham juices (leftover from a cooked bone-in ham)
8 cups Water
4-5 small Potatoes, diced (2 cups)
1 small Onion, diced (1/2 cup)
1 Carrot, diced (1 cup)
1-2 stalks Celery, diced (1 cup)
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Pepper
1/2 tsp Savory or Marjoram
1. In a large pot, bring water with ham bone and juices to a boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer cook ham bone in water for 3 hours. Rotate once an hour.
3. Remove bone and add vegetables to broth. Remove meat from bone and add meat back into broth.
4. Add spices.
5. Cook soup for an additional 30 min. or until all vegetables are tender.
6. Optional: Serve with Homemade bread!

Slow Cooker 15 Bean Soup with Ham
SLOW COOKER 15 BEAN SOUP WITH HAM

RECIPE:
INGREDIENTS:
20 oz. Hurst'sⓇ HamBeensⓇ 15 Bean Soup mix (save ham flavor packet to add a the end of cooking time)
2 cups diced ham (leftover ham works great!)
1 small yellow onion, diced
2 carrots, peeled and diced
2 celery stalks, peeled and diced
1 Tbsp. minced garlic
2 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. dried thyme
8 cups water
1 bay leaf
Add these ingredients at the end:
14.5 oz. can Italian flavored diced tomatoes
3 cups chopped kale
1/2 lemon, juiced
SLOW COOKER SIZE:
6-quart or larger
INSTRUCTIONS:
Rinse and sort beans, discarding any debris. Add the beans to the slow cooker. Save the ham flavor packet for after the entire cooking time is up.
Add ham, onion, carrots, celery, garlic, basil, thyme and water. Stir. Add the bay leaf on top of the soup.
Cover and cook on HIGH for 6 hours without opening the lid during the cooking time.
After the six hour time is up remove the bay leaf. Add the lemon juice, diced tomatoes and chopped kale. Stir. Replace the lid and cook on HIGH for 20 minutes more.
Add the ham flavor packet and stir once more. Serve and enjoy!
