Apple Fritter Bread Recipe ~ Homemade Holiday ~ Noreen's Kitchen
Today I have a simple and delicious recipe for you that will impress your family and friends and make them say why didn't I think of that? I bought a loaf of what was dubbed apple fritter bread at the grocery store a while back and it was delicious. However I knew I could do better. So I started playing and researching and trying to figure out the best road to take to make this loaf on my own. I have come up with what I feel is the easiest way to make this delicious dessert or breakfast loaf that you will love.
Perfect Sandwich Loaf:
Apple Pie Spice:
I make sandwich bread weekly. I always make a double batch of my Perfect Sandwich Loaf recipe. I divide that recipe into three portions that are weighed out to make sure they are equal. I make two of the portions into regular sandwich bread and the remaining portion I make into cinnamon rolls or this apple fritter bread. It makes a great breakfast or snack and we just love it.
All you need besides the dough is a can of your favorite apple pie filling. I don't use the whole thing. I end up using about 1 1/2 cups or 2/3 of the can. I also use some granulate sugar that I have added my homemade apple pie spice to. You can just use cinnamon sugar if you like. It will still be delicious!
The secret to making this loaf is to think about how they make regular apple fritters. Which is to chop the dough and the apple filling together before frying. So this is what I came up with. Chopping the dough into pieces, then adding the apples and chopping some more until the dough begins to look like little dumplings. Then adding in some of the seasoned sugar and mixing some more before plopping (yes that is a technical term) into a prepared loaf pan. Press the mixture into the pan then sprinkle liberally with more seasoned sugar. Allow this to rise just until it crests the top of the pan. Then bake until brown and crunchy on top. Mine took about 40 minutes.
When you take this from the oven you will want to let this sit in the pan for about 10 minutes then loosen from the sides with a knife and tip out onto another pan and then do the flippy floppy thing again to put it right side up for cooling.
I do not recommend slicing this bread right away. It will be best to slice with totally cool and the loaf has had time to cure. However, we sliced it for you so you could see and yes, Rick risked it and ate that hot slice off camera. He is not ashamed and will not apologize.
I have glazed this in the past but this time I had a lot of sugar on the top so we decided to leave things alone. Rick said that the 12 year old in him prefers the icing. So next time I will do that for him. Either way this loaf is delicious and will only last a couple of days in our house.
I think this apple fritter bread is a great idea for a holiday gift for friends and neighbors. I think they will love it! Perfect for Christmas morning breakfast!
I do hope you will give this apple fritter bread a try and I hope you love it!
Happy Eating and Happy Holidays!
