Driftwood // Cold Process Soap Making
After yet another small hiatus, I am back with another video! These bars are actually available to purchase online now, that's how long ago this video was shot. (oops) I owe much of that time to learning how to navigate my way through Premiere Pro. (thanks Alex!!) It's been both a blessing and a curse, just because I don't necessarily need all the bells and whistles just yet. However, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like all the new things I'm able to do that I wasn't on iMovie. So stay tuned for all that! :) If you are interested in purchasing one of these bars, you can click here -- or the link below.

Base oils include: coconut oil, olive oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, and castor oil. (I cut out the portion that involves weighing out the lye and oils as it is not necessarily what I want the focus to be, which is more on the design process itself!)

BETH'S LEMON POUND CAKE RECIPE
Serves 12-14
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter (240g), softened
2 ½ cups (500g) sugar
6 eggs, room temperature
1 tbsp (15 ml) lemon zest
2 ¾ cups (330g) sifted flour
1 tsp (5 ml) salt
¼ tsp (1.25 ml) baking soda
1 cup (240 ml) sour cream, room temperature
FOR GLAZE:
1 cup (100 g) of powdered sugar
2-4 tbsp (30ml-60ml) heavy cream (depending on how thick you like it)
1 1/2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
zest of 1 lemon
a sprinkle of Lemon Thyme (optional)
METHOD:
Preheat oven to 350F/176C degrees.
Spray on Bundt pan with baking spray.
Sift together the flour, salt and baking powder and set aside.
Cream together butter and sugar until very light and fluffy.
Add the eggs to the butter mixture, 1 at a time. For a quick way to warm up eggs to room temperature, place them in a bowl with warm water for 5 mins while butter is creaming together).
Add the eggs 1 at a time, scrapping down the bowl as needed, so that the eggs are well incorporated.
Add zest and stir
Then remove the electric mixer and with a spatula, fold in the flour mixture to the batter in thirds, alternating with a spoonful of the sour cream. just until combined, being careful not to over mix! (or your cake will be tough)
Bake for 35-40 mins. It’s done when a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely. Reverse from mold and place on a sheet pan, fitted with a cooling rack.
GLAZE:
Place sugar in a bowl, whisk in heavy cream until smooth and no lumps appear. Then add juice. Spoon over cake until it drips over the sides. Garnish with lemon zest and lemon thyme. Allow to set.
Serve with homemade whipped cream! (a few fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or blackberries served alongside is also great with this too!)

Making Apricot Freesia cold process soap
It's about time that I use this fragrance again. I've been thinking about it for some time, but of course, there were other soaps I wanted to get too also. Not only is this Apricot Freesia fragrance a great scent, but it doesn't discolor our misbehave at all. In fact, in the making of this soap, it really took its sweet time in thickening up the batter. The name also suggests one of my favorite color combinations: orange and pink.
The freesia part of the equation is also intriguing to me and gives me fruit for thought. Freesia flowers not only smell awesome, but they're beautiful flowers that are usually a beautiful mix of colors. For that reason I paired off some colors to use as drop swirls.
There was a lot to do in this rather complex soap. While complex, the design is actually simple. It's the piping that adds a bit more complexity to the situation. It definitely contributes to more instruments to wash. In this case 3 piping bags were prepared, so there were the bags plus three pieces of hardware to deal with for each.
But I love a good project and challenge. I also always love the results of a successfully piped soap.
We returned from almost two weeks in Ecuador, with the chief reason to visit the Galapagos. There was one particular indigenous thing there that inspired a soap that I will be making soon. Of course there will be a video, so stay tuned.
Thank you all so much for the subscriptions, comments and thumbs up. It really helps my channel to grow. Also, the vibrant soap webstore is open again at: vibrantsoap.com
Also, check out the vibrant soap instagram page at:
I will be posting more of the Galapagos trip there as well al my soap and other things that influence and inspire me.: lots of nature and flowers.
Take care!

There are a lot of thanksgiving recipes that I get questions about but homemade pumpkin pie from scratch is at the top of the list so I made a new video with all my tips and tricks as well as a test of two different paking methods! And yes I included baking instructions for a from scratch, and premade pie crust. Hope you enjoy!!
