How To make Molasses Sugar Cookies
3/4 c Shortening; combination of
Margarine and crisco works -best 1 c Sugar
1/4 c Molasses
1 Egg
2 c Flour
2 ts Baking soda
1 ts Cinnamon
1/2 ts Ground cloves
1/2 ts Ginger
1/2 ts Salt
Recipe by: Laine Anderson Preheat oven to 375. Grease cookie sheets. Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Roll dough into 1" balls and roll in sugar. Once they are on the cookie sheet, make an imprint in each with your thumb and add a bit more sugar in the thumbprint. Bake for 8-10 minutes. * I usually add a bit of mace along with the dry ingedients. -----

This recipe “checks” all the right boxes and really shocked me with how good it is! I made these cookies for Thanksgiving and my whole family loved them. A few people even asked for the recipe. Give these delicious cookies a try for yourself and you won't be disappointed.
Original 1984 Recipe:
Molasses Sugar Cookies:
¾ c. shortening
1 c. sugar
¼ c. molasses
1 egg
½ tsp. Salt
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. Cloves
½ tsp. Ginger
1 tsp. Cinnamon
Melt shortening in a saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat. Let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Add to first mixture. Mix well. Chill and form into small balls. Roll in granulated sugar. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375℉ for 8-10 minutes.

Old Fashioned Soft & Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe - Today's Old Cookbook Show recipe comes from a depression era cookbook published in 1935. This molasses spice cookie recipe produces a soft chewy ginger spice cookie with a deep molasses flavour.
Ingredients:
½ cup shortening
½ cup sugar
1 egg
¾ cup molasses
¼ cup milk
2 ¾ cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
¾ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ginger
½ tsp salt
Method:
Cream shortening and sugar together.
Add beaten egg, molasses and milk and mix well.
Sift dry ingredients together and add to the first mixture.
Mix well.
Drop by teaspoons on a greased baking sheet and flatten with the back of a spoon.
Bake in a moderate oven (350ºF) about 12 minutes.
For parties decorate with a sugar frosting.

Here is a quick recipe for Molasses Cookies Without Refined Sugar. Molasses is used as a healthy replacement for sugar, and is worth it.
Molasses Cookies: In bowl, cream ½ unsalted softened butter. Once butter is whiter in colour and creamy, add ½ cup molasses and mix for additional 3 minutes. Add 1 egg, 1 tsp vanilla and mix slowly until combined.
Sift in 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp ground ginger, ½ tsp ground cinnamon, ¼ tsp nutmeg, and 1 tsp salt. Fold to combine.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and bake cookies for 10-12 minutes.
