Crispy Deep Fried Chicken Tenders Recipe
Crispy deep fried chicken tenders are a delicious recipe, sure to please your friends and family! Join Eric from Simply Elegant Home Cooking as he demonstrates his take on this classic dish. This is also a special episode, with an appearance by Eric’s nephew, Miles. There are several keys to making great chicken tenders. Firstly, you need to get a very strongly seasoned flour mix with plenty of salt and pepper, and any of your favorite spices. Additionally, you want to fry in peanut oil. This will give the fried chicken fingers a great flavor that simply can’t be replicated using canola or other vegetable oils. Today Eric (and Miles) will be cooking with chicken tenderloins. However, another option is to get whole skinless, boneless chicken breasts and cut them into smaller pieces with a knife.
Ingredients:
-1 to 1 ½ pounds chicken tenderloins
-1 ¼ cup all purpose flour
-1 teaspoon salt
-3/4 teaspoon black pepper
-1/4 teaspoon onion powder
-1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
-1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
-1/4 teaspoon paprika
-1 large egg
-2 tablespoons water
-1 gallon peanut oil for deep frying
Directions:
-Remove chicken tenderloins from fridge an hour before cooking.
-20 minutes before cooking time, preheat your peanut oil to about 365 degrees f. You can use either a deep fryer or a large Dutch oven.
-In a dish, mix all of your salt, pepper, and other spices together with the flour and stir until fully incorporated.
-In a separate large bowl, add the water to the cracked egg, and whisk until fully mixed.
-One piece at a time, dip the chicken into the dry mixture first until all pieces are coated, placing them back into a plate after each is coated in flour mixture. Be sure to let excess flour fall back into the dish.
-Next, one at a time, dip the floured chicken into the egg mixture, then back into the flour. Be sure to coat thoroughly, then set each piece onto a baking sheet with a rack. It is important to let the chicken sit for 5 to 10 minutes before frying.
-Once oil is preheated and breaded chicken has been sitting for at least 5 minutes, fry the chicken. CAREFULLY drop each piece, one at a time, into the hot oil.
-Once all chicken has been added to the oil, stir around using a metal slotted spoon to ensure that no pieces are sticking together. Fry for about 6-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy exterior is achieved.
-Once chicken is cooked, remove from oil and allow to drip dry for about 2 minutes. Then transfer chicken onto a paper towel lined plate for just a minute to absorb excess oil. Add more salt if desired.
-Serve with your favorite dipping sauces and enjoy!
