How To make Father Time Cookies
1 1/4 c Firmly-packed brown sugar
3/4 c Golden crisco shortening
2 tb Milk
1 tb Vanilla
1 Egg
1 3/4 c All-purpose flour
1 ts Salt
3/4 ts Baking soda
1 1/2 c Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Icing: 2 c Icing sugar
3 tb Water; (3 to 5)
Food colouring 1. Preheat oven to 375F (190C). Place sheets of foil on
countertop for cooling cookies. 2. Combine brown sugar, shortening, milk and vanilla in
large bowl. Beat at medium speed of electric mixer until well blended. Beat egg into creamed mixture. 3. Combine flour, salt and baking soda. Mix into creamed
mixture just until blended. Stir in chocolate chips. 4. Drop by rounded measuring tablespoonfuls (15 mL) of
dough 3 inches (7 cm) apart onto ungreased baking sheet. 5. Bake one baking sheet at a time at 375F (190C) for 8
to 10 minutes for chewy cookies, or 11 to 13 minutes for crisp cookies. DO NOT OVERBAKE. Cool 2 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to foil to cool completely. 6. For icing, combine icing sugar and 3 tablespoons (45 mL)
water. Mix to blend well. Add additional water, a little at a time, if icing is too stiff. Add additional confectioners sugar if icing is too thin. Add food colour, a few drops at a time, to achieve desired colour. Place icing in pastry bag fitted with small round writing tip. Alternately, place in small resealable plastic bag. Snip very small hole off one corner of each bag. Pipe icing in clock face design onto cookies. Makes: About 3 dozen cookies -----

Today Glen bakes this 1938 Boston Brown Cookies Recipe. These cookies are a take on The Boston Cookie recipe found in many American cookbooks and newspapers starting in the early 1880's. There are a few variations to the recipes, mostly with regards to spicing and the fruits used. They share what seems like a common ancestor in early Hermit recipes.
Ingredients:
¾ cup shortening
1 teaspoon soda
1 cup walnuts
½ cup small raisins
1 cup dates
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Method:
Drop with teaspoon on lightly greased pan. Bake in a hot oven.
Method as shown:
Preheat oven to 190ºC (375ºF).
Cream together shortening, sugar and eggs.
Mix salt and spices into flour.
Stir flour into creamed mixture a little at a time.
Stir in fruit and nuts.
Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Makes about 36 cookies.

1938 Dad's Crispy Oatmeal Cookies Recipe - Dads Oatmeal Cookie Recipe - Glen And Friends Cooking
This 1938 Dad's Oatmeal Cookies Recipe, may not be THE original Dad's Oatmeal cookie recipe... But these are great home made cookies! We'll be exploring the whole Dad's cookie history in a future episode.
Ingredients:
2 eggs
1 cup butter
1¼ cups sugar
2 cups flour
2 cups fine oatmeal
2 cups cocoanut
6 Tbsp corn syrup
2 tsp ginger
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp allspice
1 tsp baking soda
Method:
Preheat oven to 375ºF.
Cream butter and add sugar slowly.
Cream in eggs, then syrup, then cocoanut.
Mix spices and soda into flour.
Add flour and oatmeal alternately into butter mixture.
Portion and roll into small balls.
Place on a baking tray and bake for 12-15 minutes.
Makes about 55 cookies.

Old Fashioned Soft & Chewy Molasses Cookies Recipe - Today's Old Cookbook Show recipe comes from a depression era cookbook published in 1935. This molasses spice cookie recipe produces a soft chewy ginger spice cookie with a deep molasses flavour.
Ingredients:
½ cup shortening
½ cup sugar
1 egg
¾ cup molasses
¼ cup milk
2 ¾ cup flour
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp soda
¾ tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp ginger
½ tsp salt
Method:
Cream shortening and sugar together.
Add beaten egg, molasses and milk and mix well.
Sift dry ingredients together and add to the first mixture.
Mix well.
Drop by teaspoons on a greased baking sheet and flatten with the back of a spoon.
Bake in a moderate oven (350ºF) about 12 minutes.
For parties decorate with a sugar frosting.
