California Garden Tour July 2018 - Gardening Tips, Harvests & More!

Today's episode of California Gardening is filled with gardening tips and advice. We begin with a tour of the Southern California Garden, we look at some summer harvests, we see how mockingbirds attack, we look at things to do in your garden this month, our recipe for the month, some cool gardening products and then a shout out to a fellow gardener.

1. Garden Tour - We take a garden tour which is lush with vegetables like the Black Cobra Pepper, Big Boy Tomatoes and Early Girl tomatoes, okra, eggplants, peppers and more!

2. We harvest the following vegetables and herbs: Amaranth, Banana, Beans, Cilantro, Eggplant, Ivy Gourd, Mint, Okra, Onions, Peppers - Black Cobra and California Wonder, Strawberries and Tomatoes.

3. Nesting mockingbirds will defend their nests and take on attackers who come near. We look at mockingbirds that were nesting in our garden and how fearless they are.

4. Things to do in your garden include pruning, protecting your
plants against insects, etc.

5. Our recipe of the month is Amaranth Sir Fry With Coconut

6. We review gardening products at our local Home Depot and Lowes. Products like Dr Earth are great quality products that are now available.

Toxocara has been named as one of the five Neglected Parasitic Infections targeted by the CDC as priorities for public health action. The veterinary and shelter communities can have a direct, significant, and immediate impact to reduce the impact of this zoonosis by reducing the number of infected animals and educating the public. This seminar reviews the life cycle, transmission, diagnosis and treatment of this common parasitic infection in both cats and dogs as well as zoonotic risk and public health impacts. This is a presentation by Dwight D. Bowman, MS, PhD, DACVM, from the 2015 ASPCA-Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Conference at Cornell University.

I return to review VR games again, and what better virtual reality game to review than Valve’s Half Life: Alyx. No major story spoilers but I talk about Half Life: Alyx’s gameplay at length.

Virtual Reality finally has a game I think most can agree is a great game that has been made excellent in VR. I may not be a Half Life fan as such, but I have played Half Life 1 and 2, and Half Life: Alyx has made me fall in love with the series.

Half Life Alyx is without a doubt the best virtual reality game I have ever played, I compare it a lot to Boneworks and The Walking Dead: Saint and Sinners because I think it highlights where those games missed the mark a little, and what future games need to try and do to make VR really take off as a platform.

I played Half Life: Alyx on the Index, but it seems to play just as well on the Vive. I would recommend the Index version as the Index has the best virtual Reality controllers I have used so far.
Anyway, that’s enough of me talking about VR, go get Half Life: Alyx if you can!
