How to Make Homemade Croutons (in the Oven) | Baked Croutons | Garlic Croutons from Bread
I had an entire loaf of sourdough bread about to go to waste, so I decided to make croutons for the first time ever! Let me tell you, it won't be the last. I followed the recipe below to learn How to Make Homemade Baked Croutons. SO DELICIOUS! YUMMO
If you have leftover bread sitting around - make croutons! Super simple, and more delicious than any pre-made croutons. Great for entertaining for that extra rustic homemade factor.
INGREDIENTS 1/2 loaf whole wheat French bread 1 Tbs extra virgin olive oil 1/2 tsp kosher salt 1 tsp dried herbs (such as basil & oregano)
DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 375º.
2. Carefully slice bread into cubes (or tear into small chunks with hands) and place on rimmed baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat.
3. Sprinkle on salt and seasonings, toss again to coat. Arrange bread cubes in a single layer. Bake for about 10 minutes. Croutons are done when they are slightly toasted and light brown. They should be crunchy on the outside, and chewy in the middle. Store in an airtight container.
PRO TIPS – For a more rustic crouton look, tear bread into crouton-like pieces with hands – Toss everything on the baking sheet you will be using for a one-pan, no-mess recipe – Seasonings can be changed up to fit your preference – Use croutons not only on soup and salad, but on chili too!
