How To make Sweet Potato Tzimmes
4 lg Sweet potatoes,
-peeled and diced 1 Butternut squash,
-peeled and diced 4 Tart apples, peeled,
-cored and diced 1/3 c Passover wine, sweet, red
1/2 lb Prunes, pitted and
-halved 1/3 c Water
1/3 c Sugar
1 t Cinnamon, ground
1/2 t Nutmeg, ground
1/2 t Ginger, ground
Combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl. Mix well to distribute the liquid evenly. Dump into a baking dish and seal the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and a lid. Bake 1 hour at 350 F. Cool. To serve, reheat, then empty into a serving dish. Don't serve it out of the pan you cooked it in (the movement into the serving dish squeezes juices out of the fruit). Tzimmes Making time for our Sedar
Tzimmes is a traditional Ashkenazi Jewish sweet stew typically made from carrots and dried fruits such as prunes or raisins, often combined with other root vegetables (usually yams).[Some cooks add chunks of meat (I added a 5 lb roast ! ) The dish is cooked slowly over low heat and flavored with honey or sugar and sometimes cinnamon or other spices. (I don't put any of that into mine but it is sooo sweet and yummy - our daughter-in-law Kasi actually gave me a fantastic compliment, she said she's never had anything so delicious !! )
We had a wonderful Sedar this afternoon .. wine flowed, chicken soup with matzo balls, tzimmes, choroset, matzo, matzo cake ... I'm sure my parents were watching with smiles on their faces :) I had our oldest grandson and our youngest grandson at the table

Cooking with Family: How to make Tzimmes
My mother-in-law shows us how to make #tzimmes, a delicious, sweet concoction of cooked carrots and sweet potatoes. If you've never had it, it makes a great #Thanksgiving side dish, but of course is more traditional for Jewish holidays like #Pesach (i.e., #Passover) and #RoshHashanah. I will say that this is one of the absolute best renditions of tzimmes I have ever had! I really like it with the extra juice and before it gets mushy.
