Homemade Texas BBQ Sauce
Sauce can be a controversial thing in the Lone Star State. Central Texas barbecue especially has a major focus on meat, and it can be frowned upon to douse your barbecue in sauce.
Some even believe that sauce on the table is a symbol of inferior quality barbecue.
But, in a state with a population of almost 30 million people, there are plenty of people that do love their barbecue saucy.
It’s smoky and full of pepper, making it a great sauce for robust proteins like beef brisket, ribs, and chopped beef.

Sometimes we think about Barbecue being difficult, but it doesn't have to be! This Texas Homemade BBQ Sauce proves my point. Now you can wow your friends with a delicious BBQ Sauce made in your own backyard (well... in your kitchen.)
Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons of butter
1/2 red onion
1 clove of garlic (or about 1 teaspoon)
1 cup of ketchup
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 cup of lemon juice
2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar
1 teaspoon of tomato paste
1 Tablespoon of yellow mustard
1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons of chili powder
Add salt and pepper as desired (I didn't add any)
Directions:
Melt the butter in a saucepan on medium high heat. Add your onions and cook for about 3 minutes.
Add your garlic and cook for 2 minutes stirring continuously.
Add the rest of your ingredients and mix it together. Let it simmer until it reaches desired texture.
To make the sauce smooth, run it through a blender. Or you can leave it chunky. Either way still tastes delicious!

Homemade Barbecue Sauce
Chef Jason Hill shares his homemade barbecue sauce recipe in this episode of Chef Tips. This easy homemade barbecue sauce calls for a dry spice mix of:
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon Hungarian paprika
1 teaspoon turmeric or Coleman's dry mustard
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (optional)
1/4 cup brown sugar
followed by
1 cup ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Jason's garlic shallot purée (or 2 cloves mashed garlic)
1 teaspoon coarsely ground cracked black pepper
Mix well, and place this simple barbecue sauce in a pot. Cook over low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally and keeping care that it doesn't burn. Allow to cool completely in the refrigerator, allowing flavors a few hours to meld. Store in the refrigerator up to 2 weeks.
