How to Make Baklava that is Ono!
Howzit Everyone!
This week, I want to show you how to make a sweet and crispy Baklava. This is a crispy, crunchy and sweet dessert that can be very hard to stop eating.
Ingredients:
1 Package Phyllo Dough (There were 2 packages in the box that I purchased)
12 oz. butter (2 sticks)
Nut Filling:
2 Cups Walnuts
2 Cups Pistachios
1 Cup Hazelnuts (Optional)
1/4 Cup Sugar
1 tsp Cardamom
Syrup:
1 1/2 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Water
1 Tbs Lemon Juice
2 Tbs Honey
2 Tbs Rose Water (I found a bottle online at walmart.com)
This recipe calls for Phyllo dough, walnuts and pistachios. I added hazelnuts and a few Macadamia nuts. There is also, sugar, cardamom, honey, rose water and a little lemon juice. Please don’t skip the cardamom or the rose water. Without them, the flavor is not the same. This recipe tastes like baklava that I have had at restaurants and bakeries.
I suggest you prepare all of your ingredients first so you can put them all together quickly. Phyllo dough can dry out very quickly, so you will need a big brush to spread your clarified butter.
I suggest making the walnut/filling mixture first and setting aside. Then, I would brown the butter. (2 sticks) Make sure the phyllo dough has thawed for at least 6 hours. Cover the unused sheets in the plastic they come in, so they don’t dry out.
Building the layers of phyllo dough takes some time, but you need to work quickly so the dough does not dry. It can crack and become difficult to work with, when it is dry.
The First layer of Phyllo Dough is 10 sheets, then add a layer of filling, 6 more sheets, a second layer of filling, then 8 sheets on top.
Bake in a pre-heated oven at 325* for 15 minutes. Then, lower the temperature to 300* and bake for another 5-10 minutes. Remove when the baklava is golden brown.
Add the syrup.
Sprinkle some of the filling on top and let it rest for a couple of hours before eating.
Check out the end of the video for my Whoops! Moment. Thank you for watching and see you next week!
