How To make Apple Baklava
6 Golden Delicious apples
6 Granny Smith apples
2 tb Unsalted butter
6 tb Sugar
1/2 ts Cinnamon
Nut Mixture: 2 1/2 c Walnuts, chopped
1/2 c Sugar
1/2 ts Grated lemon peel
1/2 ts Cinnamon
24 Sheets phyllo dough
1/2 c Unsalted butter, melted
2 tb Plain dry bread crumbs
2 tb Honey
Prep time: 1 hour plus cooling Baking time: 35 to 40 minutes Apples give a distinctive twist to this traditional Greek dessert. Sauteing them first to let the water evaporate ensures a crisp crust. APPLE LAYER: Peel and slice apples. Melt butter in Dutch oven over high heat. Add apples, sugar and cinnamon; cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are tender and juices are evaporated, 15 to 20 minutes. Cool. NUT MIXTURE: Combine all ingredients in small bowl. Preheat oven to 400^F. Trim phyllo sheets to 13x9-inch rectangles; cover with plastic wrap. Brush 13x9-inch metal baking
pan with butter. Place 1 phyllo sheet in pan and brush with some of the melted butter (keep remaining phyllo covered). Layer 5 more phyllo sheets on top, brushing each with butter. Spread 2 cups nut mixture on top and repeat layering with 6 more phyllo sheets and butter. Spread apple mixture on top; repeat layering with 6 more phyllo sheets and butter. Sprinkle remaining nut mixture on top; sprinkle with bread crumbs and layer with the 6 remaining phyllo sheets and butter. With sharp knife, cut lengthwise
through pastry and filling into 1 1/2 inch-wide strips, then cut diagonally at 2-inch intervals to make diamonds. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until golden. Drizzle honey on top and bake 5 minutes more. Cool in pan on wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature with whipped or ice cream. Makes 12 servings.

Apple Baklava Cups | Kravings
Perfect for the Holidays, this Apple Baklava is a wonderful recipe to serve at a lunch or dinner party. Baklava is an old traditional favorite from Greece and the Middle East. Layers of phyllo pastry are brushed in butter and sandwiched between layers of sugar and nuts. Once baked, the dough is moistened with a delicate sugar syrup. The result is a delicious crispy and sticky sweet treat. In this recipe I used Cortland, they are perfect for baking and don’t discolor quickly. It’s also a soft apple which makes it great in a filling.
These little bundles are made in muffin tins and have a layer of delicious Apple right in the center. They bake up crispy with walnut and pistachio layers and the baked treat is drizzled in a sugar syrup enhanced with orange blossom.
This very decadent dessert can be served at your Holiday table with a dollop of ice cream. My only regret is that I didn't make more as they were devoured quick!

- 1.5 cups (372g) hot water
- 2 teaspoons (23g) white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon (10g) olive oil
- juice of 1 lemon
Turkish (pistachio):
- 2.5 cups (350g) shelled raw pistachios
- 1/2 teaspoon (4g) fine sea salt
- 2 cups (454g) unsalted butter
- 1 pound (25 pieces) phyllo dough (buy 4 packages of filo also called phyllo pastry to use)
- 2.5 cups (470g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (96g) muscovado sugar
- juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 3/4 cup water (415ml)
- 1inch peel of lemon zest
Greek (spiced walnut):
- 25 sheets filo
- 2 3/4 cup (246g)walnuts
- 1/2 tsp (4g) fine sea salt
- 1 tablespoon (8g) cinnamon powderf
- 1 teaspoon (2g) all spice
- 1/4 teaspoon fresh grated nutmeg
- 350g butter, melted
- 1/2 cup (97g) sugar
