Delicious Thai Green Papaya Salad | Vegan Som Tum Recipe
You have to make my Plant based Thai Green Papaya Salad! This salad is a deviation from the traditional Thai Green Papaya Salad, but it's equally as delicious. I made 2 versions in this video. 2 Recipes for Som Tam (Green Papaya Salad)
Did you know that there are many types of som tam? Today, I want to share with you 2 - Som Tam Thai, and Som Tam Pla-Ra. Som Tam Thai is most commonly served at restaurants; Som Tam Pla-Ra is my hometown's recipe.
Which one do you prefer?
Som Tam Pla-Ra Ingredients:
green papaya strands from 1 medium-sized papaya, soaked in the ice cubes:
3/4 tbsp of fish sauce:
1.5 tbsp of pickled fish sauce, or pla-ra:
1/2 tbsp of concentrated tamarind water:
8 pieces of birds’ eye chilli:
1.5 of whole tomato, cut into small wedges:
1 tbsp of lime juice:
2 cloves of garlic:
1 tbsp sugar
Som Tam Thai Ingredients:
green papaya strands from 1 medium-sized papaya, soaked in the ice cubes.
2 tbsp of fish sauce:
1 tbsp of concentrated tamarind water:
3 tbsp of coconut sugar syrup for Thai salads:
5 pieces of birds’ eye chilli:
long beans, cut into 1.5 inches:
1.5 whole tomato, cut into small wedges:
1.5 tbsp of lime:
2 cloves of garlic:
3 tbsp of dried prawns:
2 tbsp of roasted peanuts

Som Tam is a green papaya salad that combines all four tastes - sour, chilli, sweet and salty, thus enticing your taste buds and taking this dish to a whole other level.
SOM TAM
Ingredients
2 cups shredded raw papaya
1 stalk spring onion greens, cut into strips
1 small carrot, grated
8-10 cherry tomatoes, halved
3-4 tablespoons roasted peanuts
Salt to taste
Few iceberg lettuce leaves
Dressing
2 fresh red chillies, sliced
5-6 garlic cloves
1 tablespoon roasted peanuts
1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon tamarind pulp
Method
1. To prepare dressing, crush red chillies in a mortar using a pestle. Add garlic cloves and crush.
2. Add peanuts and brown sugar and crush again. Add lemon juice, soy sauce and tamarind pulp and mix well.
3. Mix together raw papaya, spring onion green strips, carrot, cherry tomatoes, peanuts and salt in a bowl. Add dressing and mix well.
4. Line a serving platter with iceberg lettuce leaves, put the papaya mixture and serve.

Ingredients:
Raw papaya 1 n
Ginger 1 small pieces
Garlic 4 n
Shallots 5 n
Carrot 2 n
Beans 3 n
Tomato 2 n

Soya sauce 1 tb
Chilly paste 1 tb
Chopped coriander 1 b
Honey 1 tb
Lemon juice 1 tb
Directions:
1. First peel and cut the raw papaya thin like noodles.
2. Take ginger, garlic, shallots, crush in a mortar pestle.
3. Take a bowl and add carrot, beans, add crushed ginger, garlic, shallots paste, add thin slices of tomato, papaya, salt, Soya sauce, red chilly paste, chopped coriander, honey, lemon juice, and crush the vegetables.
4. And then add crushed peanuts and mix it well ready the salad.

Som Tam aka Thai spicy green papaya salad - the most famous Asian papaya salad is easy to make and full of flavors. a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, salty & sour. Roasted peanuts are added to this salad which adds a beautiful crunch along with taste.
