How to Make Hash Browns - Diner Style Restaurant Hashbrown Recipe
Learn how to make crispy hashbrowns just like you get at a diner! These are super simple and only require a real potato, butter, oil and a technique. That's it. Enjoy!
For one serving of hash browns:
1 (4-5 ounce or 110-140 grams) russet potato
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1/2 Tbsp butter or margarine
Wash and peel the potato. Grate or shred on a box grater or food processor. Do so into a bowl of water to prevent oxidation. Drain and rinse until water runs clear. Spread shredded potato out onto paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Pat dry and let air dry for 5-10 minutes. In a small frying pan, add oil and butter. Heat over medium-medium high heat. When butter solids start to brown, add shredded potatoes. Cover with a lid and cook for 5 minutes without lifting the lid. When time is up, remove lid, season with salt and pepper and flip. Continue cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes. Makes 1 serving of hashbrowns. Enjoy!

EASY and FUN Shoestring Fries Recipe You Can Make at Home!
Ready for a delicious snack experience? This shoestring fries recipe is the perfect blend of easy prep and great taste!
Full recipe:
Ingredients
Servings: 4
4 medium russet potatoes
1 tblsp white vinegar
Canola oil, for frying
Garlic salt
Finely chopped parsley, for garnish
Directions 8 steps | 65 Minutes
Step 1
First, wash and peel the potatoes, removing any dark spots. Prepare a large bowl of ice water mixed with the white vinegar.
Step 2
Next, use a mandolin cutter fitted with the julienne blade to slice your potatoes into matchsticks.
Step 3
Then place the sliced potatoes into ice water. You will need to let them soak for about 20-30 minutes.
Step 4
Dry the potatoes using a salad spinner or a lint-free kitchen towel. If you end up using a salad spinner, make sure you pat the potatoes dry with a kitchen towel to remove any remaining moisture. If you use a kitchen towel, you may want to use a second dry kitchen towel to dry the potatoes a second time. It is essential for your potatoes to be completely dry as any moisture will cause dangerous oil splatters when frying up your shoestring fries.
Step 5
Then in a Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot, heat 4-5 inches of oil to 350°F and line a baking sheet with a cooling rack. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the potatoes, a handful at a time, into the hot oil.
Step 6
Stir constantly until the potatoes are evenly golden brown. This should take about 3 minutes.
Step 7
Use a spider tool to remove the potatoes onto the wire rack. You should season the potatoes immediately with garlic salt. Repeat this step with the remaining potatoes you have.
Step 8
Last but not least, garnish with parsley and serve with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce! We hope you enjoyed learning how to make shoestring fries with this easy recipe!
