How To make Fried Garlic Chicken Balls
2 lb ground chicken meat
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 egg whites
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger (fresh if possible)
2 tablespoons dry sherry or rice wine
4 cloves garlic
crushed

coating 1 cup cornstarch
1 cup flour
4 cups peanut oil :
for frying
Mix the chicken with all of the seasonings and egg whites. Mix it very well. Form into balls about the size of large walnuts and set on waxed paper. When all are formed, mix the cornstarch with the flour and roll each ball in this mixture. Deep fry in several batches in 360 degree oil until the balls float and are golden brown in color, about 5 minutes. Taste one to be sure they are done to your liking.

These Asian inspired chicken meatballs are the latest in a series of chicken meatballs that my whole family have been absolutely obsessed with. Honestly I never though chicken meatballs could be so juicy and packed full of flavor but here we are! Buffalo chicken meatballs, chicken zucchini meatballs, and now these Asian Chicken Meatballs.
With fresh green onions, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, and toasted sesame oil, the meatballs on their own are amazing. Smother them in a sticky, sweet sauce? Even better!
Best of all? These easy chicken meatballs come together in only 30 minutes.
Ingredients and Substitutions
For the meatballs:
- Ground Chicken – ground turkey or pork could also be used.
- Panko breadcrumbs – or unseasoned Italian breadcrumbs
- Green onions
- Fresh ginger – 1/3 of the amount of powdered ginger can be used in a pinch.
- Fresh garlic – 1/3 of the amount of garlic powder can be used in a pinch.
- Soy sauce – low sodium or gluten-free (tamari), or coconut aminos, etc. if needed.
- Toasted sesame oil
For the sauce:
- Soy sauce
- Cornstarch – or arrowroot powder if needed
- Honey – or another sweetener
- Toasted sesame oil
- Rice vinegar
- Sriracha – or chili garlic sauce or your favorite Asian hot sauce. Omit for a mild version.

This has to be one of the best chicken & rice recipes, so much flavor, the perfect balance of sweet, spicy & savoury!
Macros per serve (4 total)
452 Calories | 40g Protein | 51g Carbs | 10g Fat
Ingredients (4 servings)
- 700g Cubed Chicken Breast
- 2 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1.5 tsp Black Pepper
- 2 tap Paprika
- 1 tsp Salt
- 30g Cornflour (Brand: Tesco)
For the Glaze
- 50ml Light Soy sauce mixed with 50ml Water (total 100ml)
- 25g Honey
- 40g Gochujang Paste (Brand: Haepyo can find this on Amazon - you can substitute this for Tomato paste mixed with sriracha if you can’t gind gochujang)
Pickled Cucumbers (can be stored separately)
- Thinly sliced Cucumber
- 20ml Light Soy Sauce (Brand: Lee Kum Kee)
- 10ml Rice Vinegar
- OPTIONAL Chilli Flakes (can be really spicy, skip this if needed)
- 1 tsp Garlic Powder
- 1 tsp Sesame Seeds
Important cooking notes
- When coating the chicken with cornflour makes sure it’s well coated. Or you can skip the cornflour all together if you don’t have it
- When making the glaze, add the ingredients on low heat then keep stirring till it starts to bubble lightly then let it reduce for 3-4 mins. It should thicken
- You can store the cucumbers separately and warm up the meal prep without them. Better served cold

▢Vegetable oil for deep frying
Chicken Marinade
▢2 tsp Sugar
▢1 tsp Salt
▢¼ tsp White pepper
▢1 tsp Sesame oil
▢1 tbsp Garlic paste ( Finely grated garlic ) Or 1tsp garlic powder
▢½ tsp Baking Soda
▢1 tsp Cornstarch
Batter
▢1 cup Plain flour Or all purpose flour
▢½ cup Cornstarch Or potato starch
▢1 tsp Baking soda Or Bicarbonate of soda
▢½ tsp Salt
▢1 cup Water Add more water if needed
Sweet and Sour Sauce
▢4 tbsp Ketchup
▢1 tbsp Tomato Puree Or tomato concentrate
▢4 tbsp White vinegar
▢3 tbsp Sugar
▢½ cup Water
▢1 tsp Cornstarch
▢½ tsp Salt
Marinade the chicken
Cut the chicken breast, place them in a large mixing bowl and add all the seasoning.
Make Sweet and Sour Sauce
In a small saucepan, combine all the sweet and sour sauce ingredients.
Batter and Frying
Combine plain flour, corn starch, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Coat each chicken piece with the corn starch and dip into the batter.
Fry the battered chicken pieces and remove from oil and set aside for 4-5 minutes.
Fry the chicken 2nd time for 2-3 minutes.
